I really did not expect Try Again to make it this far.

I'm really impressed by this top 5!!! All great songs. I didn't vote, but well done guys lol.
I hope it finishes:
1. Beyonce/Jay-Z
2. Aaliyah/Timbaland
3. Adele
All three songs are AMAZING though. I don't mind which one wins. I thought it would be something crap like Poker Face that would win.

Me neither. Excellent run
3. Try Again (feat. Timbaland) - Aaliyah
Average: 8.8409090
Highest: 10 (Ace Reject, Jameson Teqkilla, Katie, Jdella11, supaspaz, stereo.love) | Lowest: 7 (Fruity, genetic fail)
I guess Ace's threat of votes not being accepted if they were less than 7 was heeded well.
While this song is a smaller pool of voters (due to not everyone sending in a rating), I personally believe it would still be #3, if not even higher. While I've never been crazy about this song, everyone else really loves it. It's catchy, Timba is putting out some of his best work, and this song perfectly summed up Aaliyah, eerily right before she died. It offered a "career song" for people to identify with without being terribly sappy.
Excellent position, ATRL.

1. "Crazy in Love"
2. "Try Again"
3. "Rolling in the Deep"
Let's make it happen!

Oops, too late! But I'm so glad "Try Again" made it this fair. It's such a brilliant song; both Timbaland's production and Aaliyah's vocal performance are superb.

I'll wait for Ace's thoughts on Try Again, and then I'll reveal the final two in the same post.

I mean, the layers and nuances I'm discovering in the production - and in Aaliyah's approach to the lyric - twelve years later is astounding.

How the hell does this beat We Belong Together
I mean, the song is nice, and I like it and all, but it's just so repetitive. I assumed it would go top 10, but top 3 is just
I do agree with you though, it does kinda sum up her career. She was like 14 when she had her first album, and from then on, she's been just going through her career, working hard and trying her best. At least she left us with a song that topped the charts.

"We Belong Together" is primarily a showcase for Mariah's vocals, whereas "Try Again" is this amazing melding of producer and artist and song. It's not just about Aaliyah or the beat; it's about the way that it all comes together as one, enhancing the entire listening experience. It's so layered that it just begs repeat plays to try and figure out everything that is going on.

C'mon Bey!!
It was a good Top 5, but the fact that 2 Adele songs were able to reach the top whilst Britney, Rihanna and Gaga all failed to is baffling.

Oh, missed a few.
I gave SLY a 6 and I honestly thought I would be the lowest vote. That's pretty surprising.
I can't believe WBT wasn't #1. That ain't right.

Did any of Britney's US number ones deserve to make the top twenty?
It's not like in the UK, where Toxic and Everytime went number one. I'd close this thread if those were absent from here.
BTW, you can totally host the UK version of this rate if you want to!

There would be a nice sense of completion, but jinzo hasn't hosted a rate!
And I'm already pumped for it.
Too bad the only 2000 and after singles Geri had reach the top spot are/were Bag It Up and It's Raining Men. My least favorite Geri singles.

Why do I get the feeling that if Jinzo hosts a rate, he'll automatically cut all our scores in half before tallying?

No. He'll just give Cher Lloyd's Swagger Jagger a ten, and replace every score lower than that with a ten also.
Which is totally appropriate. We are talking about the Princess of Brat-Swag Pop here.

If only digital downloads counted for the Hot 100 back then. "Toxic," at the very least, certainly would have been a #1 on the Hot 100.

Here we go. Final 2.
2. Crazy in Love (feat. Jay-Z) - Beyonce
Average: 8.9354838
Highest: 10 (Jameson Teqkilla, Jdella11, Ace Reject, Supaspaz, Beyonce On Top, @michael., madonnas, Jinzo, Green, fortheloveofmusic, Andre, Gabriel_Spears, genetic fail, SpecialK, Chemist, Honey, TheOnlyOne, Katy V!, umichgrad07) | Lowest: 0 (Yourfavefan)
This was either going to be #1 or #2, so I'm not too upset that its in this position. It's a shame it lost to the song that it did, but at least we can sit comfortably knowing that it beat out every other bitch on this list, other than the one bitch who has given all of our faves a run for their money (and relevance)
1. Rolling in the Deep - Adele
Average: 9.1129032
Highest: 10 (Jdella11, supaspaz, Beyonce On Top, @michael., Green, fortheloveofmusic, Andre, Gabriel_Spears, Honey, TheOnlyOne, umichgrad07, Fruity, Katie, ClassicMainstream) | Lowest: 5 (Yourfavefan)
The song that took 2011 by storm sits atop our #1s rate. Yes, you can argue that it's overrated, yes you can argue that there have been better songs, but Rolling in the Deep singlehandedly reintroduced the world to Adele, and told us that she was a force to be reckoned with.
