2013 has been a huge year for me, both in my personal life and here on ATRL. The songs I've been able to listen to along the way and the artists that were active this year have all had an impact on me as an individual as I grew personally and became more integrated in our community here at ATRL. This is my first year doing this and it's been a busy year for me, and for those reasons I won't be going HUGE with these lists just yet, but hopefully what I have planned is alright with y'all. With this countdown of what music I thought was the best this year, I hope to show you all a little more about myself and what I love about pop music!
TOP 80 SONGS
Beginning on December 16th, I'll be listing what I consider the top eighty songs of the year! This will be a countdown of the soundtrack to my life this year - the songs that I'd blast in the car with my friends, the songs I'd dance to in my room when nobody was watching, the songs to which I would contemplate life and all its mysteries late at night. You might not be impressed with all the choices, but I loved every one of them and I couldn't be more excited to share them!

With albums, I'd like to explore something more than I experienced with songs - which albums are most impressive as a whole body of work? Which are more fun, more interesting, or more thought provoking for me as a pop listener? While you should expect a lot of pop albums just meant for fun and for entertainment, all the albums on this list reflect some aspect of my personality and something about my life over the past year.

With this countdown, I wanted to do something a little different - I'll be listing ten artists of each gender and crowning a King and Queen of my 2013 at the very end! Each of the artists will be one who has impacted me in some way through their music; they could be a singer or a producer of any of the albums and songs I loved throughout the year. The final set of artists will be revealed as the clock strikes midnight on New Year's Eve and 2014 begins! In the time zone next to mine, of course, I'll be busy at midnight here.

THE RETRO AWARDS
As a sort of grand finale to my very first year of Best Of countdowns, I'll be hosting an awards show based upon the Grammy Awards and featuring entries from my countdowns! The categories will be announced on January 1st at 9:00pm EST, and nominees will be announced 24 hours later on the 2nd. All of my events will be wrapped up on January 3rd with the big awards show finale, with the awards being announced gradually from 7:00pm EST to 11:00pm EST!
