Katy is seen more as a sweet girl than Gaga. The general public likes things that can be easily digested and that's what Katy delivers, and they like it. Gaga is a little bit too much for them, but I love Gaga that way for being different, standing out and not conforming to the public's standards.
But honestly I'd say Gaga has more respect and recognition in the music industry which is what matters, but as far as the general buyer is concerned, if you're more conservative you'll go for Katy while the wild ones usually use Gaga more. Overall, I'll say Katy.
They're both respected for different things. Katy is respected for her clean image and consistency in delivering catchy pop smash hits, while Gaga (while not always understood) is respected for her artistry and guts...I just think that her controversies get more attention than when people are respecting her unfortunately.

I agree. Gaga's standard is just held too high, unlike any other pop girl. That comes to show that they expect more out of her.
Ok but are the grammy committee and the public the same thing? Not trying to be mean, but as a fellow Gaga stan, the whole Grammys thing is so stale when it comes to dragging Katy Kats. It's overused and unnecessary in most situations.
