I thought that the definition of racism was

which does make it possible to be racist towards someone white.

People of color can be prejudice against white people which isn't right AT ALL but racism goes further than hurt deficient feelings. When people of color do hate white people, it doesn't come from a place of superiority like racism.

Someone on another forum I frequent explained it well...

Prejudice is having a dislike toward a group of people. It includes the name calling and mocking. This is where a lot of people think racism begins and ends.

Racism is prejudice + POWER. It's institutional and systematic. it goes beyond you hating a group of people and goes into keeping said people disadvantaged on a grand scale.

FOR EXAMPLE, there has never ever been a law passed to restrict the white race's right to vote or the quality of education or their quality of life. All of these have been passed against minorities and continuing as I write this. That's really why the Tea Party is scared of Obama and the GOP is restricting voting rights because they think we'll do the same ****ed up **** to them when in power. No, we're Democrats for a reason. We want everyone to have the opportunity to win.

I'm sorry, but I disagree with this.
Discrimination = Racism. It's the exact same, "discrimination" is just the broader, more versatile term, while "racism" is the specific act of being discriminatory towards people based on their complexion.

Also according to this:
Institutionalized discrimination = Institutionalized racism. It's the same, only one of them is more specific in WHO it is exactly that is being discriminated.

You can be racist against white people. The fact that there is no institutionalized racism against white people doesn't mean that it does not exist, obviously. That would mean you're saying there are zero people in the world who would discriminate somebody for being white.

I kinda hate these things because the authors always give the word racism their own individual meaning and then complain when other people don't think it means the same thing

I don't understand how that means a black person can't be racist to a white person. Not to say that that does happen or that it's a real problem, but technically it's possible surely?

Well what you quoted is really just a more general definition and I think it's right to use that too, it's just that lately racism has come to be used in the sense of "prejudice+institutionalized discrimination". It's really just semantics and people will disagree with each other, the point is just that discriminating against white people really isn't the same as discriminating against PoC due to historical reasons outlined in this presentation.
