Rihanna's Manager Explains "One Album A Year" Strategy
He’s one of Pop’s most elusive but powerful men, steering the ship that is Rihanna‘s career.
However, for all his success with the Island belle, Jay Brown oft finds himself criticized for allegedly pushing the star to launch new LPs every year, leading to the premature demise of many of the singer’s eras.
In the spread, he shared:
“If you have a new iPhone every year, why can’t we give them new content? But I don’t think she’s thinking of it like that. She’s thinking, ’I love to make music. I want to keep going.”
Also, while we ‘get’ Brown’s ‘iPhone’ comparison, it is worth noting that unlike Rihanna, Apple’s software (or skills) improve with time, thus giving giving consumers something truly new. Not, the same product in altered packaging.
Either way, whichever way you look at it, Brown’s handling of Rihanna‘s career has been impeccable to say the least.

That's such BS because she doesn't "make music." She comes in and sings to whichever tracks have been written for her, and then follows her team's style, promo etc. strategies. It's not the same at all as a real musician/singer-songwriter who has a constant outpouring of creativity and feels compelled to keep making music.
The honest truth is that they're just pumping out albums/singles and hoping something sticks. Rihanna and her team know that they can't stop because she will lose all her momentum.

"She loves making music". All she does is go into the studio for literally a week's worth of time TOPS to put her voice on the already produced and written songs, shoots the album photos and she's done. TGJ hates her so much. And death at her manager comparing her to Apple products.
