damn this video is actually great
hater will hate, this video is "tour de force"
It's such a meaningful video if you really pay attention to her video (bravery, woman's independence, and surviving no matter what happen in your life) and I mean it even I don't like Katy
Historically in movies like "Sheena" or even "Tarzan" where people are trapped in the jungle the woman is taken care of by the man/told what to do etc etc.
In this clip, the man is "killed off" early and Katy learns to take care of herself in the "Jungle" Oh and whats the song about? Being Empowered after a break up!
The clip is BRILLIANT and perfectly timed. I'm sure it'll see her stay a US number one for a few more weeks to come!
If you're still having trouble understanding it, think.- Same message as express yourself without the same chord progression, melody and Karl Beans lyrics.
And that my darlings, is the essence of Pop Art: taking a popular imagery, or a popular concept, intervening/changing it into something else - if not the purpose, the execution, if not the execution, the meaning.
And Katy did it, PUUURfectly.
GO KATY!
It all makes sense. I just think it could have come together in a better way. It's not something considered "pop art" because this isn't even art gallery worthy. Pop art is defined as you've said, but a crucial thing you've missed in that explanation is that it should make you think about it in a different way. This is just recycled cinema tropes and recycled rebellion. It needs to say something new, and I don't feel it did.
Don't get me wrong. I was in full support of this song. I even bought it the first week it came out. I'm into it. The video though isn't that great,
