Thank you for saying what you wanted to say the entire time.
Thresh was the one Katniss was INSTANTLY afraid of on first sight. Throughout the entire book she mentioned how strong he was and how he would take out anyone he wanted to kill, even when he wasn't around she thought about him, we were meant to think he was the ONE to kill, not Cato. Even when he died she STILL sided with him saying she bet he didnt go down without a fight. Clove was trained with Cato as well and her punk ass hit the floor crying with one snatch, as did Glimmer from a few stings and the boy from District 1.
So it has nothing to do with him being BLACK, it has to do with him being the strongest, the best, and the top seed in the Games based solely on his natural strength and ability to stay alive. he died because the writer wanted Katniss to win, in a real life situation he would have won easily.

Yes, Katniss sided with him after he had been killed. His death was a literary device to emphasise Catos strength by comparing him to the seemingly invincible Thresh, and setting Cato up as the final adversary (which of course he turned out not to be, I see that as a reminder of how weak they all were to the Capitol). The fact you failed to pick up on this is worrying
And this isn't real life, these are not real people, so such speculation is pointless.
Will reply and elaborate tommorow, on phone and about to sleep.
