The series stars Connie Britton as Rayna James, a legendary country superstar, whose stardom begins fading. Her producers offer her a joint tour with the up-and-comer Juliette Barnes, played by Hayden Panettiere, the young and sexy future of country music. But both singers are pursuing their goals. Juliette wants to take the place of Rayna. Rayna thinks that a few songs written by talented author, Scarlett O'Connor, will help to revive her success. Rayna's father is Lamar Wyatt , a powerful politician in Nashville, who forced her to marry Teddy Conrad, who lives on her money.
Before people compare this to that Gwyneth Paltrow film (which I have seen from a lot of different forums), THIS series actually has received a positive reaction from critics.
-Metacritic gave the show a rating of 84 out of 100 or "universal acclaim" based on 27 reviews.
-Nashville was one of five honorees in the Most Exciting New Series category at the Critics' Choice Television Awards, voted by journalists who had seen the television pilots.
Quote:
Enter Nashville, not a moment too soon, with a pilot that has us hooked like no other new network drama in recent memory. Whether you watch the sneak preview on Hulu or tune in to tonight’s premiere (10pm, ABC), and even if the dueling country divas premise doesn’t immediately spark your interest, be sure to give this show a shot.

"Nashville" has all the makings of a really good prime-time soap that get a lot of things going in its first hour. Yes, it’s set in the capitol of country music. And, yes, it revolves around country music.
But you don’t have to be a country music fan to fall for "Nashville"

For months now, the assumption has been that the title of best new drama of the season is "Nashville's" to lose, and if the pilot is any indication, the show is not in a losing state of mind.
