Three movies are going to dominate in December, I think: The Golden Compass, I Am Legend and, obviously, NT2. The Golden Compass looks like another one of those movies that fantasy geeks out there will just love. And as for I Am Legend? Here's my two word rationale: Will Smith.

Well I don't know. I mean the 1st one opened with almost $40 million, but again failed to continue with longetivity, which is a huge factor now since the 1st weekend is really good and then movies slump afterwards on upcoming weekends.
And to be perfectly honest with you, this winter season isn't hyped up that big like past winter seasons and that's where some movies get screwed over. The only solid hit I can see right now is National Treasure 2 and maybe Alien vs. Predator 2. In the end, I haven't seen a hyped winter season like 2005's, which had the masterpiece King Kong and the Chronicles of Narnia competing and gaining money while doing so. Sometimes it helps if you have a running-mate with you in the box office terms, but sometimes it can hurt you.

Well, I've seen it already and I would advise you to do the same. It's really good, but sometimes jumpy in parts and that's all I'll say, so you can still go see it.

Yeah, I definitely agree that this winter season is pretty weak compared to years past, almost reminiscent of last year, when Night At The Museum pretty much dominated. But i'm TELLING you, do not discount I Am Legend. Anything with Will Smith's face on it is guaranteed to make some dough, not to mention, it looks fantastic.

Shia LeBeouf deserves the acclaim he's getting.....
Transformers wouldn't have been so good were it not for it's young leads!
And I've just remembered Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, should also do well in terms of box office!
Oscar movies are unlikely to make much impact, though i'm hoping for Atonement to exceed expectations. Another frontrunner for the oscars is apparently Charlie Wilson's War, followed by The Jane Austen Book Club.

Harry Potter 5 News
The fifth movie in the Potter series has now grossed an impressive $708 million worldwide. Its US takings of $254 million have also just surpassed those of Prisoner of Azkaban's ($250 million). Order of the Phoenix is currently just $8 million from Chamber of Secret's domestic gross.

Finally, El Cantante, starring Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony in the Picturehouse biopic of Puerto Rican salsa sensation Hector Lavoe, debuted at No. 12. Platforming in just 542 theaters, it scored $1 mil Friday and should have a $2.9 mil weekend. The film did so-so with a per screen average of 1,845, the 3rd highest Friday.

Only 542 theaters , but it did a great job
Go Jen. This movie is amazing

I'm happy that Simpsons is falling hard. It doesn't deserve the money it is getting. This is also a Friday best for the Bourne series.

Well, it's not like the Simpson's Movie is going to earn a lot of money after the 1st week, cuz most of the movies this year have just had a good 1st week and then plummeted the week after. The Simpson's Movie, should be able to earn close to or a little more than $175 million by the end of it's run.

^Which is still a lot for Simpsons. The Bourne Ultimathum is likely to wind up relatively close to The Simpsons' total even though Shoot 'Em Up may slow down it's run!
