Lana responds to SNL criticism
Quote:
Lana Del Rey has commented on her Saturday Night Live performance, claiming she finds the experience of taking to the stage on TV "weird."
The Born To Die singer, whose performance on SNL last Saturday (14th January) was criticised by the likes of Juliette Lewis and Perez Hilton, has told our US Team that despite the negative remarks, she felt "honoured" to be on the show.
Speaking of her televised performances, Del Rey explained: "I find it weird... sometimes. [It] depends on the day. You know, like, [it] depends on what's going on with my family and everyone around me,
"If I have other things to think about, or I'm trying to get things done for somebody else, and I'm not in my own way, then... I'm like, 'This doesn't really matter'. Sometimes it seems more important to me than other times, I don't know."
Del Rey continued: "Things are cool. They always will be, whether the music goes good or not. Like, I consider being able to sing a luxury, it doesn't run my life, is not my main focus.
"I love it, I feel grateful. I'm honoured to be on SNL. I'm happy to be here, but if I didn't have it, I'd be happy too."

OK, let me get this straight. She's a singer....she's been trying to be a singer for years now.....yet singing is not her main focus?
What the hell?

I love her. The performance was off, but no where near as bad as people are making it out to be.

I think she means that she's not trying to become an artist who's strictly a vocalist, her music is more important.

Well she has stated many times that writing music & studio singing are more her thing. She still not very comfortable singing to huge crowds.
Of course she likes to sing, she's just stateibg that if she was never given the opportunity she has other things in her life to focus on.

I feel like she is nervous only when it comes to those 'big' and 'important' performances (SNL), but she sounds amazing (to me) when she performs at some 'casual' events (like Chateau Marmont poolside,98.7FM Performance Studio)

Her attitude toward her career is really weird to me... I guess I subscribe to the Gaga school of thought, where if music is your passion, it's your PASSION, and you should live for it. She's all, "Eh, singing's cool, I guess. Fame? Eh. People listening? Hm. I like singing, but, eh."
I don't get it.

I'm confused.
Is she saying that SINGING LIVE is a luxury and she doesn't really dwell on it or is she saying MUSIC itself is a luxury?

That's pretty much how I feel towards her comments as well.
It's slightly confusing because I find it a little weird that a new artist that is receiving a lot of attention with her upcoming album doesn't consider singing her main focus when ultimately, she is a singer. I guess she just means that she prefers writing music instead of performing it live.
