Singles:
The fourth annual X Factor charity single, Wishing On A Star debuts at number one, emulating its predecessors. Credited to The X Factor Finalists 2011 feat. JLS and One Direction, the track benefits the charity Together For Short Lives, and sold 98,932 copies last week, continuing the downward trend the singles have shown so far.
The first of the four, a remake of Mariah Carey's Hero, benefitted Help For Heroes and The Poppy Appeal, and sold 313,244 copies the week of its 2008 release credited to The X Factor Finalists. A year on, The X Factor Finalists 2009's recording of Michael Jackson's You Are Not Alone reached number one on sales of 193,176, with proceeds going to Great Ormond Street Hospital. And last year, Help For Heroes was the beneficiary as David Bowie's Heroes topped the chart on sales of 144,014 for The X Factor Finalists 2010.
The only major hit written by the late Billie Rae Calvin of the group Undisputed Truth, Wishing On A Star is a chart veteran, with Rose Royce's original, supremely soulful 1978 recording reaching number three, Fresh 4 feat. Lizz E's trip-hop take on the tune getting to number 10 in 1989, The Cover Girls' fairly faithful 1992 revival cresting to number 38, a jungle-istic version by 88.3 feat Lisa May running out of steam at number 65 in 1995, Jay-Z's 1998 rap re-invention, with a cameo from original Rose Royce vocalist Gwen Dickey, climbing to number 11, and Paul Weller's blue-eyed soul boy reading reaching number 13 in 2004. It's impossible to prove but The X Factor Finalists may have fared even better if they'd released the similarly celestial When You Wish Upon A Star, as performed in their Marks & Spencer Christmas advertisement.
The main casualty of The X Factor Finalists' number one debut is the show's 2009 runner-up Olly Murs, whose latest single, Dance With Me Tonight is runner-up for the second week in a row, selling a further 62,417 copies.. The track which denied it top billing last week, We Found Love, slips to number three for Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris, while selling a further 51,961 copies.
It's not the only Rihanna track to decline week-on-week. The singer had 20 songs in the Top 200 last week - a 10% stake - but is down to just nine this week, with those that remain all in decline: In the Top 75, Take Care, by Drake feat. Rihanna slips 9-11 (24,548 sales); You Da One ebbs 39-40 (7,232 sales); and Talk That Talk by Rihanna feat. Jay-Z falls 25-47 (6,056 sales). Although Only Girl (In The World) is not exempt from the downward drift, its 127-154 fall is accompanied by sales of 1,669 copies - enough to lift it over the million mark (1,000,514). It's the 108th million seller in singles history, and the second in a row featuring Rihanna, arriving six weeks after Love The Way You Lie by Eminem feat. Rihanna.
Who You Are becomes the fourth Top 10 single from Jessie J's debut album of the same title, after she performed it on The X Factor Results Show eight days ago. The track tumbled 28-37 last week but now jumps to number eight, with sales more than trebling to 29,103. It helps J's album to improve 29-19, with sales up 107.67% week-on-week at 25,922.
Jason Derulo's Fight For You also makes a big leap, jumping 43-15 (17,592 sales). The third hit from Derulo's second album, Future History, following Don't Wanna Go Home (number one) and It Girl (number four), it is based on Toto's hit Africa, and help the album to a modest 123-112 climb, with sales up 44.15% week-on-week at 2,804.
Emeli Sande reached number two with debut solo hit Heaven in August and topped the chart last month as featured vocalist on Professor Green's Read All About It. Her new single, Daddy, debuts at number 21 (13,945 sales).
Lady GaGa has performed latest single Marry The Night on several primetime shows, and the song has a major radio profile but it is struggling. After entering the chart at number 18 a fortnight ago, it stalled last week and inches up to number 16, although its sales are off 28.10% week-on-week (16,798). The sixth Top 20 success from GaGa's current album Born This Way, its performance is reflected in the fortunes of the album itself, which climbed to number 14 a fortnight ago on the heels of the release of the remix edition but now falls 18-21 (25,422 sales).
Overall singles sales are down 3.06% week-on-week at 3,090,499 - 5.30% above same week 2010 sales of 2,934,813.

Albums:
Olly Murs becomes the 10th X Factor discovery to top the album chart, debuting in pole position with his second album, In Case You Didn't Know, following the success of its first two singles, Heart Skips A Beat (feat. Rizzle Kicks), which reached number one in September, and Dance With Me Tonight, which reached number two last week.
Selling 148,532 copies last week, In Case You Didn't Know is the first number one by an X Factor contestant since Diana Vickers' Songs From The Tainted Tree topped the list in May 2010. Albums by G4, Steve Brookstein, Journey South, Shayne Ward, Ray Quinn, Leona Lewis (two), Alexandra Burke and JLS have also reached number one.
In Case You Didn't Know's triumph comes a year to the week after Murs' self-titled debut album entered and peaked at number two, on sales of 108,212. That album sold upwards of 100,000 on each of its first four weeks - 105,495 in week two, 101,342 in week three and 105,496 in week four - and has since increased its cumulative sales to 661,669.
While Murs tops the chart, the singer who beat him to lift The X Factor crown in 2009, Joe McElderry racks up his third chart album in little more than a year. McElderry's October 2010 Syco debut Wide Awake debuted and peaked at number three, and has subsequently gone on to sell 101,454 copies - not enough to secure an extension to his Syco contract. However, after winning a second TV singing competition - Pop Star to Operastar - he signed to Decca, releasing Classic, which debuted and peaked at number two, and has sold 211,317 copies in 15 weeks to date. Its success led directly to the seasonally-suitable Christmas Classics, which debuts at number 15 this week, on sales of 34,043 copies, falling just short of the opening weeks of both Wide Awake (39,405) and Classic (35,609). McElderry is the second X Factor contestant to land three Top 15 albums, completing his hat trick just a fortnight after the first, JLS.
Murs' strongest competition came from Michael Buble, whose Christmas album climbs 3-2 on its sixth straight week in the top five, while increasing sales by 24.70% week-on-week to a new peak of 143,917.
After debuting at number one last week, Rihanna's Talk That Talk slips to number three (104,028 sales). One Direction's debut album, Up All Night, also takes a second week hit, falling 2-4 (80,450 sales).
Cosmopolitan classical crossover favourites Il Divo have had three number ones and a number two from four studio albums hitherto but new album Wicked Game might miss the mark, debuting this week at number six (60,316 sales).
When Olly Murs' first album was number two last year, it was because Take That's Robbie reunion album Progress was on the third of its six weeks at number one. With Williams departing again, the band's Progress Live album - a souvenir of their 2011 tour featuring songs from throughout the band's career, and Williams solo material - debuts at number 12 (42,590 sales). It's Take That's second live album - the first, The Greatest Day: The Circus Live came out exactly two years ago, opened at number three on sales of 123,312, and has since gone on to sell 514,403 copies. See below for sales of the video edition of Progress Live.
A permanent resident of the Top 75 since its release 56 weeks ago, Cee Lo Green's The Lady Killer dipped 56-72 last week but now rallies to number 30, as the newly released Platinum Edition of the album - which adds four new tracks, including the single Anyway - takes effect. The album, which peaked at number three in January, has sold 621,104 copies to date, including 16,161 last week.
Adele's 21 has weathered the heavy release schedule of Autumn, and remains in the Top 10 for the 45th week in a row - its entire chart career. Helped by the singer's six Grammy nominations and gift-buying, the album jumps 9-5, with sales improving by 47.90% to 61,274 - that's its highest weekly sale since it was number one some 29 weeks ago, and raises its cumulative sales to 3,418,131. It thus surpasses Amy Winehouse's Back To Black (3,387,929) to become the biggest selling album of the 21st century and the 11th biggest selling album of all-time. Winehouse's posthumous third album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures is one of the highlights of this week's release slate. Meanwhile, Adele's Live At The Royal Albert Hall DVD/blu-ray sold 29,638 copies last week to debut at number 32 on the video chart, where Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows 2 scorches to a number one debut on sales of 1,272,764. Adele's video was also overshadowed by Take That's Progress Live DVD, which enjoyed second week sales of 72,715 and falls to number 10, a week after debuting at number five on sales of 127,359 copies.
No album has entered and departed the Top 10 as many times this year as Bruno Mars' debut set Doo-Wops & Hooligans. It climbs 13-10 this week, starting its seventh stint in the top tier. Sales of 46,459 last week were its highest for 44 weeks, and lift its cumulative tally to 983,075, assuring its millionth sale later this week.
Currently enjoying the highest of profiles as X Factor judges and mentors, Tulisa and Kelly Rowland make modest chart debuts with their latest projects. N-Dubz - Tulisa, cousin Dappy and boyfriend Fazer - debut at number 38 with Greatest Hits (12,837 sales). A week after latest single Down For Whatever entered the singles chart at number six, Kelly Rowland's third solo album Here I Am finally makes its Top 75 debut at number 56 (8,704 sales). The album has sold at a very low level since making its Top 200 debut at number 126 in August.
Two acts more used to the top end of the chart have new entries in the basement this week. Gorillaz's four studio albums have all climbed as least as high as number 12 but their compilation The Singles Collection 2001-2011 sold just 7,639 copies last week to debut at number 61; Kylie Minogue has had four number one albums, including latest Aphrodite - but the Aphrodite Les Folies:Live In London set debuts at number 72 (5,870 sales).
Now That's What I Call Music! 80 remains number one compilation and number one album overall, with second week sales of 210,711 - a 28.77% dip week-on-week. Its two week sales of 506,558 are 9.69% below same stage sales of 2010 equivalent Now! 77.
Overall album sales are up 18.67% week-on-week to 4,067,134 - a new 2011 high, but 1.41% below same week 2010 sales of 4,125,128.
