Scream Queens [attracted] only 4 million viewers and a 1.7 rating/5 share in the advertiser coveted 18-49 demographic. Scream Queens debut is troubling for the network, especially given the massive marketing campaign mobilized behind it.
Scream Queens takes vague stabs at commentary, but feels at a loss. Actual predatory behavior on campus, and the perception that the manner in which it’s covered by the press and prosecuted by institutions is inept and inadequate, is among the biggest news stories in America. There’s no good way to make a comedy about violence for a broadcast network, but Ryan Murphy’s eagerness to congratulate himself for courting scandal just shows Scream Queens‘ particular pointlessness.
The crassness feels more than ever like a put-on. There’s nothing fun about watching Roberts call her housekeeper “White Mammy” and making her quote Butterfly McQueen’s lines from Gone With the Wind; we can tell she’s a monster without being goosed to think her race-tinged bullying is a little funny.
Worst of all is what’s done to Niecy Nash, this year an Emmy nominee for her role on Getting On. Nash gets to appear as a loud, stupid, and lazy security guard. “You cannot win an Emmy for a role that isn’t there,” Viola Davis said at this year’s ceremony; nor is an actress likely to triumph over anything beyond the obstacles Murphy creates for her.
TIME slashes Ryan Murphy's face to pieces and obliterates his show in this review.
Rest in peace, "Scream Queens." The cancellation is around the corner.
Who cares. I loved it. It makes no difference to me whether or not some random human being who writes articles about tv shows for a living enjoys it or not, and it should make no difference to any of you either.
These stupid bandwagons campaigns are so transparent. It's Tidal all over again. ATRL and the media just looooves naming the next "flop" to get their kiis from.
I went into it not knowing much about it and Emma Roberts dismal acting made it hard to discern whether or not this was satire or not. I really wanted to like it and cringed through the whole thing.
This is so corny. When is this "Mean Girls" era in television going to end? I blame gay male writers and gay male directors who keep pedaling this "Mean Girls" shtick on television. It's not novel anymore. It's old and only stupid tweens who like Fifth Harmony and Ariana Grande like that rehashed "Mean Girls" comedy s***. What a waste of talents like Jamie Lee Curtis and Niecy Nash.

No$tradamus always tries to warn the masses. No one listens.
I don't think it'll get cancelled. Scream Queens is obviously for a particular audience. It's a guilty pleasure, kinda like Bad Girls Club and other ratchet TV. I enjoyed it
Had it narrowed its aperture, tried to be a show that took on mismanagement of criminal doings on a college campus, or a simple genre homage, or a diva smackdown for gay audiences only, it might have been a success. But Ryan Murphy wants his shows to do it all, including stuff that’s never really worked for him. And in an era when actresses who don’t look like Emma Roberts are demanding respect more loudly than ever, it shouldn’t be a surprise if people change the channel.
TIME dragging Ryan Murphy, the gays (and their awful "diva smackdown" taste), and Emma Roberts.
