Billboard 200 Albums (February 22-29, 2012)
Quote:
Whitney Houston Has No. 2 Album, Grammys Push Big Gains on Billboard 200
As earlier reported, Adele's "21" spends a 21st nonconsecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, selling 730,000 (up 207%) in the week after the Feb. 12 Grammy Awards.
The diva also moves up five slots to No. 4 on the tally with her first album, "19," which sold 87,000 last week (up 144%).
Whitney Houston's "Whitney: the Greatest Hits," climbs from No. 6 to No. 2 in the first full week after the singer's death on Feb. 11. The album sold 175,000 for a 174% gain. It's the best sales week (and highest charting position) for the set, which was first released in 2000. Its previous high came in its debut frame, when it started at No. 5 with 158,000 on the chart dated June 3, 2000.
Houston has a total of seven albums on the chart this week: "Whitney Houston" (72-37 with 17,000; up 113%), "The Bodyguard" soundtrack (80-38 with 17,000; up 123%), "I Look To You" (118-65 with 9,000; up 81%), "Whitney" (122-87 with 7,000; up 46%), "The Preacher's Wife" soundtrack (183-90 with 7,000; up 46%) and "My Love Is Your Love" (a re-entry at No. 193 with 4,000; up 96%).
Grammy Awards performer Bruno Mars jumps 30-8 with "Doo-Wops & Hooligans" (38,000; up 133%), country album of the year winner Lady Antebellum zips 17-9 with "Own the Night" (37,000; up 47%) and nominee/performer the Civil Wars fly 41-10 with "Barton Hollow" (36,000; up 178%). For the latter, this is the album's best sales week and marks a new peak position.
The "Now 41" set holds at No. 3 (94,000; down 33%) while the "2012 Grammy Nominees" album rises 8-5 with 85,000 (up 66%). Van Halen's "A Different Kind of Truth" falls 2-6 in its second week (58,000; down 69%) and Paul McCartney's "Kisses on the Bottom" slips 5-7 in its sophomore frame (58,000; down 22%).
Outside the top 10 we see big Grammy-fueled gains from Grammy performers/nominees Coldplay, Rihanna, the Band Perry, Foo Fighters, Mumford & Sons, Taylor Swift, Bon Iver and Skrillex -- and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Coldplay's "Mylo Xyloto" moves 14-11 (35,000; up 26%), Rihanna's "Talk That Talk" rises 18-17 (26,000; up 11%) and the Band Perry's self-titled set kicks 24-19 (24,000; up 22%).
Foo Fighters' "Wasting Light" glows with a 59-21 jump (23,000; up 134%), Mumford's "Sigh No More" moves 29-23 (23,000; up 40%) and Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" rallies 42-25 (20,000; up 60%). Best new artist winner Bon Iver (who was also spoofed on the Feb. 18 "Saturday Night Live") climbs 49-29 with "Bon Iver" (19,000; up 61%) while fellow best new artist nominee Skrillex sees his "Bangarang" EP move 32-31 (19,000; up 23%).

Exactly one year on the chart and 21 gets it's 21st nonconsecutive #1. Not only does she sandwich those 52 weeks with #1s, but it's also her biggest sales week for 21. What kinda number manipulation? Incredible.
