SANDÉ SET TO APPEAR ON CONAN, RACHAEL RAY, BET’S 106 & PARK, AND VH1’S BIG MORNING BUZZ LIVE
April 16, 2012 — New York, NY — With several hits in the UK under her belt, Scottish-born singer and songwriter Emeli Sandé will release her first U.S. single, “Next To Me,” on April 17th. The same day, a pre-order for her debut album Our Version of Events will launch on iTunes. The album is due for release in the U.S. by Capitol Records on June 5th and will feature the new song “Wonder” which is a collaboration with Naughty Boy and not available on the UK version.
Sandé will also make several upcoming TV and radio appearances, including TBS’sConan on April 19th, NPR’s World Café that week, BET’s 106 & Park on April 23rd, VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live on April 25th, and Rachael Ray the week of May 14th. Fans can also check out a MySpace Music “One-Two-Watch” feature that offers an in-depth look at Sandé’s rise to fame in the U.K. plus footage of her first-ever show on American soil. Watch it here.
Sandé has also announced two new U.S. dates, May 30th at Lincoln Hall in Chicago and June 4th at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City, in addition to her shows this month at the Bootleg Theatre on April 18th in Los Angeles and at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on April 24th in Brooklyn. (Five fans who check in to the Brooklyn show on Foursquare will get to meet Sandé after the show.) These shows will be the last chance to see Sandé perform in an intimate setting before she returns to the U.S. this summer to open a series of arena shows for Coldplay, with whom she toured the UK in December.
The live shows and TV appearances are sure to ramp up anticipation for the U.S. release of Our Version of Events, which debuted on the UK Album chart at No. 1 in late February. The album is a powerful platform for Sandé’s rich, soulful voice and sophisticated songwriting. As Q magazine put it: “She’s made an album that deserves to linger in the limelight — passionate, powerful, and possessed of real star quality.” A heady and complex soundscape to showcase her towering talent, Our Version of Events is rife with raw emotion, while bearing a sharp and shining retro-futurist feel.
Sandé won the 2012 Critics Choice Award at the BRITs (recent winners include Adele and Florence + the Machine) and was also nominated for “Breakthrough British Artist” this year. Besides the industry embrace, critical acclaim, and radio success she’s already earned in the UK, Sandé’s fellow artists are also lining up. With Coldplay tapping her for opening slots on both sides of the Atlantic, other early admirers include Alicia Keys, who has been quoted saying “She’s a magnificent new artist…I just love her style and her flow.” Keys also co-wrote and produced the track “Hope” on Our Version of Events, and has been writing with Sandé for her next album. Finally Adele was moved to Tweet: “How incredible is she?” upon seeing Sandé perform on Later…with Jools Holland.
