Is 4 getting better with time already?
1+1 - I recently fell in love with this song, when the video premiered I really didn't watch it because I didn't have time to analyze it like I do other music. But when I finally did sit down and watch the video scene for scene it amazed me. I love the honesty, the rawness, the sexualization without being a *****, and most of all the delivery. I know it was a favorite of many indie critics and older stans, but I didn't always connect with it. I have now and I can really appreciate the fact that it never sounds irritating or old to me, it sounds classic.
I Care - I always loved this song, not only is the instrumental beautiful, but the lyrics are fantastic as well. It builds and builds up to something huge and then it goes back down to being honest and desperate for love. It has some of the best riffs and runs she has ever done and around the 2:50 mark she does some amazing things with her instrument that I have never heard another vocalist do in my lifetime. It still sounds very refreshing to my ears 8 months later and that's a great feeling, because I don't think a lot of people have heard this song yet, which is disappointing.
I Miss You - If you know me you know this was an instant favorite of mine. I always thought it was amazing but you have to hear her sing it at Roseland to get that feeling of intensity that makes it addicting. Frank Ocean really did his thing on this song and I don't think it could ever sound dated because it's ahead of it's time. If you haven't heard them, you should listen to Frank Ocean and Tae Yang cover this song, they sound absolutely beautiful (almost better than Bey herself), I think I appreciate a man singing this song more than a woman which is rare for me. I can tell it was written from a mans point of view and therefore it works better when the emotion of a man can be heard.
Best Thing I Never Had - This is probably the most disposable song on the album and the most forgettable. It's a great song, but we've heard it before and it eventually becomes irrelevant when you put it with the rest of 4 which contains maturity and sounds we haven't heard from the King before. Not only that but the video turned me completely off, I felt like it was lackluster compared to what it could have been. I do love the song, especially the lyrics, on the first night I replayed it so many times, but like I said it becomes forgettable.
Party Ft. Andre 3000 - The vocals. The need to bop. The elongated notes.
Rather Die Young - Let's be honest, 99% of the stans skipped this ****ing track when they first listened to the album, some of them still do today. But the ones who saw Live At Roseland fell in love instantly, I don't know if it was the power of Beyoncé or just the actual live delivery of the lyrics but everyone was so impressed with the live version. It was hands down the best performance of the night and the most memorable. It made me love the song even more and really appreciate her taste in music. It was funny that everyone at Roseland already knew the lyrics lol, the emphasis on the chorus is the most important part of the song, there is so much passion in it.
Start Over - Remember that scene in "A Year Of 4" when they started playing the instrumental to Start Over? Remember the tingling sensation you got in your veins when you heard it, that is always how I feel when this song comes on. And if that isn't enough, then wait till the chorus comes on and Beyoncé belts the words "LET'S START OVER" for the first time, you will die. It's powerful, it's honest, and for the first time in her career, I believe this album is full of actual emotion and not just made up emotion to go with the song. Now as if all that wasn't enough, wait for the breakdown towards the end when she starts speaking softly, you will wanna find a man and allow him to cheat just so you can sing this song.
Love On Top - This used to be a favorite of mine, and I still bop to it but I don't think it impresses me as much as it initially did on the first few listens. Given her vocals are at their peak in this song, the way she slides through the chorus with such ease this can never be forgotten. She hits some of her highest notes ever in this song, especially towards the end.
Countdown - From the beginning all the way to the ****ing end, this song is flawless and i don't call a lot of songs flawless. There is not a single thing wrong in this song, she opens it with a note no one else in pop music could ever even try accomplishing, and then she rushes and skips through a countdown of absolute genius pop lyrics. It's fun, fresh, modern, and most of all very relatable and suitable for all formats without being generic. It's definitely one of her best efforts to date and I can say with ease that it is the 3rd best uptempo song of her solo career.
End Of Time - The lord came down from Heaven and blessed this song himself #end.
I Was Here - Ace warned me that this song wasn't all it was cracked up to be and it took me 6 months, but I finally see it now. Yes she's belting to the gods, yes the lyrics are nice, but there is nothing special in it. I don't feel connected to it like I do with her other ballads, there is no brutal feeling, it just feels empty. I would without a doubt rank it in last place (including the bonus tracks).
Run The World (Girls) - I know! I know! I know! But I don't give a **** what anyone says, this is one of the most infectious songs I've heard in my twenty one years of life. The anger, the passion, the ferocity, the unapologetic tone in her voice, and most of all the confidence makes this song unbeatable. It's not her usual girl power tune, this isn't about bashing men, this is about enslaving them, making them little bitches and then throwing them out in the cold without a second thought. If you hate this song you may be one of those punk ass ****** that gets bossed around, this song is definitely not for the faint hearted or the weak. This song is for future presidents, CEO's, innovators, elitists, and perfectionists.
Schoolin Life - Her single best effort at impressing me or anyone for that matter. THIS is the type of song you expect from Beyoncé after 15 years of chart domination. I don't know how this song found her but thank god it did, this was needed very much. The chorus is one of the best to ever find a song in our generation, and the way she pushes her way through the verses without apologizing for saying what she feels is gut busting. Who needs a degree when you're Schoolin Life? No really.... who needs a ****ing piece of paper that says you took a ******** class that showed you how to measure the area of a circle when you have **** to do? Thank you Beyoncé!
Dance For You - Cuz I can recognize that you know that that's why I'm backin' this thing back.
Pop, poppin' this thing back drop-drop-drop-dropping this thing back.

I don't think it's getting better with time. It was a masterpiece to me the first time I heard it.
It's one of my favourite albums of 2011, for sure. I have so much respect for Beyonce for not selling out and doing lots of dance music.

What was really surprising about 4 was I never really loved it, I even thought I'd stop playing it in a few months, but I didn't and I'm still playing it like it was a new release.

Yes it grew on me a lot. It's sad that some people won't give it a shot because it's not dance-pop.

It's funny, because I first started getting really into this just before my best friend's mom suddenly passed away. Once her mom passed away I showed this song to her and me and her both connected instantly to this song.

Am not in a reading mood right now.
Let me put on my reading glasses.
I haven't listened to 4 as a whole in a good minute though. Control has been spamming my speakers nonstop for the past week or so.
