I know Mariah got it in the 90s and Michael Jackson got it in the 80s. And I know it might already be too early to tell since we won't know until like what the year 2009 or something. Anyways I've looked at other discussion boards and they are just like me they agree that Usher would most likely be the artist of the decade. He had 6 of his 7 #1 singles in this decade. 8701 went platinum worldwide. Confessions went diamond. Both were spectacular albums. Dominated the charts in the whole year of 2004. Replaced himself on the charts. Did one of the greatest tribute performances I ever saw doing a tribute performance of Gene Kelly's Singing In The Rain perfectly showing that not Justin or Chris Brown is a better dancer than him. Not to mention if his comeback album is sweet as heck and scores a bunch of #1 singles, he'll have it on lock. Then again they said that this was more of a hip hop decade so they thought either Nelly, Jay-Z or Eminem should get it since this was the decade these hip hop artists totally blew up. In that case there could be a chance Kanye West is in the discussion as well. Justin Timberlake could be but if he is probably just barely I mean yo for real I like Justin but the dude only put out 2 albums with only 1 album scoring #1 singles when the rest of these artists have put out 3 albums or more and yeah with N*Sync doesn't count it has to be with your whole career as being a solo artist. Same thing with Beyonce except she has scored #1 singles on both her albums but with Destiny's Child doesn't count either. Those to me would have to be the main artists that would be in the discussion. Who else do you think should be considered?
Hmmmmmmm when my parents get to know who he is
he will be the artist of the decade. Everybody knows Mariah and Michael
the artist of the decade might as well be Avril Lavigne. 3 albums that sold more
than Usher.

When an artist has a album that has gone diamond it doesn't matter. Usher only released 2 albums this decade. 8701 and Confessions. 8701 went platinum. Confessions went diamond.

Americans always forget about the rest of the world. Usher is not that big worldwide.
I just said Confessions went diamond worldwide. 8701 went platinum worldwide I'm sure. I think it only mainly depends on how they've done on the U.S. Billboard Charts. Dude has won so many Billboard awards too. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't get it especially if he makes a teriffic comeback.
^That's because it sold over 9 million in the US. And sold a decent amount outside of the US to get over the 10 million mark. Having the album go diamond
Britney probably won't get the decade...her heyday was 1999-2004 and nothing she's done since has really kept up her momentum unfortunately. It could be Usher although JT has a bigger international following. It could very well be Madonna too. I'm not sure if bands count but I definitely think Coldplay or Linkin Park deserve some acknowledgement. oh yeah, and Avril and Xtina I guess. JT/Beyonce could get it if their days with Nsync or DC count.
Here are the numbers for Confessions:

Just some facts. The way it looks since this is a Billboard Award and Usher has won the artist of the year award both in 1998 and 2004. He's won the most Billboard awards in our generation of music right now with 19. When I say our generation I mean artists in their 20s
