I would encourage them to play sports and all but I wouldn't obsess over their weight either, it could have damaging emotional consequences for the child and lead to eating disorders

No! In my health class we are currently going over diseases like diabetes, cancer, etc and a risk factor for almost all of them is overweightness/obesity/no exercise/unhealthy lifestyle.
My child will be eating healthy and exercising to stay fit and live a long healthy life!
I wouldn't be obsessive about it but I would introduce my child to exercising of athletics at a early age. I want my child to be healthy, whether that be thin or not.
