Brit's "Blackout" Headed for Wipeout?

Britney SpearsIt might be Sir Ben Kingsley's morning mantra, but Britney Spears' "Gimme More" isn't exactly burning up the radio, and pre-sales of her new album, "Blackout," are more than a little bleak.

That's according to FOX News, which says that "Gimme More" is "dead" on the radio, citing trade paper Radio & Records, which also reports that the single is at the bottom of every chart. Meanwhile, Brit's big comeback album, due in just a week and a half, is withering at 76 on Amazon.com, which suggests weak advance interest. "Gimme More" is currently #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart.

And Britney is only up to #34 which isn't bad but someone who will have a real success like Carrie Underwood is at #5. So Britney is still doing bad for what people think will be the biggest selling album of the year. Britney will be lucky if she gets to #1.

Well, Britney went up to # 29 on Amazon so that's good for her. The big questions is what are the expectations for her album? What does her record label predict for first week sales? That's an important thing because someone like Ashlee Simpson could sell 300,000 albums the first week and it would be a huge success for her. But if Britney sold only 300,000 the first week it would have to be a disappointment for her. Kelly Clarkson debuted at #2 with 290,000 albums sold in the first week and people said that was a flop.

So we can't properly say whether the album will flop or be a hit unless we know what the expectations are for this album. And I am not talking about the delusional fans expectations but I am talking about the record labels expectations for the album.
