People are starting to create official threads again. It makes the forum look more organized but it looks messy when every artist has one. I think we should only allow artist to have an official thread when they're about to release an album and only if they have a fanbase here in ATRL (otherwise we would see threads for Missy Elliott or Cassie).
We could try to go strict on Music News being purely for newsworthy events, so threads aren't allowed to continue for more than a couple of weeks, and non-news (purely artist fan talk) threads would be deleted.
So, where would artist fan/stan talk go? Groups, probably. Now obviously, the Groups area is dead right now, but it doesn't have to be. People might use it if it was their only choice.
It would be a perfectly OK place. There are threaded discussions now (been that way ever since we upgraded to vBulletin 3.8), so it's not just the one-wall-fits-all that it used to be.
I'm moving this to The Lounge so we can gauge the reaction of the common folks.
BTW, people: You should actually check out the Groups before you diss them. I know they used to suck, but a lot has changed in that area with the vBulletin 3.8 upgrade. Groups would essentially be sub-forums for artist fans.
However, I have to admit, I'm still not really sold on the idea myself. It'll take some time.
The Groups section doesn't even have a tab. If it was to be used as an official thread area, I think that should be the first change.
But I don't think that would work, anyway. Putting artists' threads in the main Music forum makes so much more sense. I don't understand what you mean, Reeces. How can it be both organized and messy? Just use your judgement. If you don't think an official thread is valid, close it.

The problem is that there's a ton of discussion going on about some artists, and it's all jumbled up within one thread.
We need a way to make newsworthy events visible in the Music News forum when they happen, but also have a place for artists' fans to do their general jibber jabber every day.
I don't see official threads at the moment cluttering the forums as they used to. The only useless ones were the Hilary and Aguilera and now they're closed.

Excuse me, but the one that are worthless are the ones where the album is no longer popular. Hilary's "Reach Out" thread was in no way crappy, since the song was doing amazing in Italy, and that was where we were posting the Italian news, plus it's slowly increasing airplay in the US. However, KGB era is over. That one needed to be closed.

I don't think the Group thing would work :-/ Cause there would only be a few groups active (right now maybe Britney Spears, Lily Allen, Kelly Clarkson), and the rest would be lame.
I think the way things are being done are fine. I mean, if something relevant happens with one artist, it is posted in a New Thread, and then after some time that thread is attached to the official artist thread. Don't see the wrong in it.
