1990's-2000's: Is the Industry Changing?
Okay. SO me and Travis are having a conversation about the industry. I say its changing because the world changes all the time. Nothing stays the same (unless you're Beyonce). And he says that the industry is going through a crisis and is in a downfall.
Basically, I think his opinion is stupid because he's saying that Beyonce makes QUALITY/GOOD music (i.e. single ladies, If i were a boy, baby boy, etc) and nobody else in the 2000's make QUALITY/GOOD music. Its stupid yo. He believes that nobody else makes QUALITY/GOOD music unless you're Beyonce or if we were back in the 90's.
What he has to realize is that the industry changes. The 90's weren't the same as the 80's. And the 80's weren't the same as the 70's or 60s. Personally, I think the 2000's are better than the 90's because the 90s were mostly about sex, making love, having babies, killing people, committing murder, or shooting up buildings. Now, we barely even talk about that stuff. The 90's was mostly hard core rap (i.e tupac and biggie) and about RnB (i.e. Brandy, Monica, SWV, Ginuwine).
Now days, its about Pop and thats what is selling.
Whats your opinion? DO you think that the industry is just changing or do you think its in a downfall (and your reason for downfall cant' be because of leaking or anything of that nature)

Funny, I think Beyonce--on an album basis, not based on her singles--has some of the worst music of any superstar artist today.
This is a "duh" article though. Of course it has changed, mostly for the worse. Let's see...
-Rap was better
-Pop was better
-Rock was better
-Adult was better
What is better now? Not much that I can think of. What I love about the '90s is that so many huge artists were at or very near their peak. Nirvana, Brandy, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Destiny's Child, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oasis, Alanis Morisette, Whitney Houston, Shania Twain...
All of those people made such incredible albums. There was an unusually high concentration of great ALBUMS from the 1990s, as opposed to just one-hit wonders.

^That is the most commonly used example, but I don't think that there has been a #1 hit that bad since.

I dont believe its in a downfall. We're changing because Soulja Boy makes hot music that sells and makes people get up and dance (duh) so thats what made him #1. Just like DC3 back in the 90's. They made music that got people out their seat and dancing. Or anybody else for that matter. You guys always say "Soulja Boy" was a mistake. If You knew Soulja Boy before he came out into the industry, you would notice that he had a MASSIVE fanbase anyways so it was destined for him to be #1. Everybody I knew loved Soulja Boy (except me) and now they dont really like him (but now I do)

WTF so you think all this crappy music which all talks about those topics more now then back then is better...90's music had soul and meaning today music is a tune for a week then you get tired of it...back then you can listen to a song for months and it will still be popping!

I like the music industry currently right now. I really didn't like the 90's. 80's without a doubt is the best decade, but the 2000's aren't horrible. It just sucks that so many people listen to such crappy rap and hip-hop music like Soulja Boy.

The only reason Beyonces name was mentioned is because Travis was using Beyonce as an example the whole time and claimed she is the only real artist who delivers any quality or good music. If you ask me there is nothing wrong with the quality of music now. It's good. Its just just some of these rappers are making crappy music but are getting big. I mea rap is my first love but half of it is crap.

There is nothing *wrong* with music now, it's just that pop music was infinitely superior ten years ago. Compare the #1 hits from that year to the #1 hits this year and you'll know what I mean.

Honestly if something was wrong with the industry today, you wouldn't purchase singles, or request on the radio, continue to buy millions of Beyonce, Amy Winehouse, or Rihanna records.

I like rap. Lil wayne makes great music. that is why I listed him
But I learned rap is so fake. These new rappers coming up in their first videos with thousands of dollars huge houses lots of women and all these cars. Rap videos are all the same. You are supposed to tell a story in a music video. I am tired of the same I live in the ghetto but I overcame it crap we get it you came form the ghetto your hard. Not give me an epic thriller video. Missy Elliot is the only rap artist that pulls you in with her videos.

I don't know what you mean by this (sorry for whoring this thread  ), but the thing is there was CONSISTENTLY great music in the '90s. It wasn't how it is now, with a sea of mediocre songs and then one great one pops up.

I mean, you're stating your opinion. I think alot of songs I hear now deserve to be #1's because they make me get out of my seat and dance or they make me feel better when Im sad. If i want some 90's, Ill go back to the only real artist from that decade and that is Mrs. Lauryn Hill. And she is the ONLY ONLY ONLY REAL ARTIST FROM THE 90's. No doubt about it.
I can tell you now, alot of music from the 90's I hated because it was boring. Now, its fun and upbeat and crazy and great. 2008 is the best year of music ever since I was born.
