After seeing the Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” music video, I’ve sadly decided that I can no longer support the Femme Fatale era.
I will always love and support Britney as a person, and I’ll always love her music (which is second to none), but I don’t agree with how I think she is being handled this era, and I believe that supporting this era financially is telling ‘Team Britney’ that I endorse what they are doing, when I don’t.
Since this era began, Britney herself has yet to utter one single word publicly. ONE WORD. The only contact with her has been through a Twitter account, and who really knows who is actually controlling that damn thing. I don’t care about how Britney’s lack of promotion effects her success commercially, but I personally don’t think it’s normal for an artist to not speak one word about their own album, while a team of producers and managers do all the talking for them. She’s a human being with her own personality, thoughts, and feelings, and if I’m hearing about a Britney Spears album, I would like to at least occasionally hear about it from her. When updates about Britney’s album have been given to major media outlets like Rolling Stone or Billboard, it has been somebody else doing it, not Britney herself. As busy as she is, I don’t think it’s that hard to pick up a phone and call a journalist to give a two minute update on the progress of your own project.
Once again, this has nothing to do with how this affects her commercially, but simply boils down to it not being normal. It’s not normal to not have your own voice heard when you are one of the most successful and powerful women in the world. And when promo begins, what are we going to get? More highly-controlled interviews with pre-arranged questions and managers looking over her shoulder as she answers them? That’s basically what happened during the Circus era when Britney was interviewed by Rolling Stone for her 2008 comeback story, as the journalist voiced her concerns publicly on the issue. I can’t speak for everybody else, but for me, that’s unacceptable.
Why was Brian Friedman and ‘Team Britney’ hyping up the dancing in “Hold It Against Me” to the high heavens when it clearly didn’t deliver? Why is everybody around Britney either speaking for her and making false promises about, while Britney herself remains silent? It doesn’t add up.
Currently, Britney still remains under a conservatorship that renders her with the legal rights of a child. I understand why it needed to be put in place at one point, but why is it still in effect now, in 2011, when she’s releasing perfumes and clothing lines, being a brilliant mother and looking after her kids, touring the world, and releasing albums and music videos?
Britney has an empire relying on her to get paid, and when she works, people make money. That’s a fact. I have no idea what goes on behind Britney’s closed doors, but personally, I feel like her team are doing everything for her, because they know that lucrative Britney is still going to bring in millions of dollars whether she’s out performing and giving interviews or not.
I don’t know what the cause is of Britney’s lethargic dancing, prolonged conservatorship, and severe lack of public exposure (to the point where she hasn’t said one word — I just need to reiterate that), but I know she’s not a lazy person, so to point the finger at her and blame her personally is a derogatory and negative manner is unfair. There’s obviously something else going on, whether it be linked to the conservatorship, a lack of creative control that’s dimmed her passion, or something more serious that the public and her fans no nothing about. Who really knows? I just know that as a fan of Britney and a fan of pop music, I can’t idolize somebody who isn’t around. I can’t connect to somebody who is constantly surrounded by fancy props to mask what appears to be a lack of enthusiasm. I need somebody who can actually speak a word, and then when they finally do, words that haven’t been pumped through a PR machine.
I honestly couldn’t give a **** about how Britney charts, how sexy she looks, or how good she dances. I just want to know that everything is OK with her, and that she isn’t being treated like some puppet and cash cow. I do not want to see Britney end up in some ultra-shielded, controlled, and unhealthy alternate-reality like Michael Jackson in his later years. There’s just too many question marks for me with Britney’s situation and how this era has been handled right now, and IF (extra emphasis on the IF!) anything bad is going on, I personally don’t want to keep financially supporting it and sending the message out that it’s OK. Besides, why in the hell would I want to fork out my hard-earned money to somebody who is not even SPEAKING? That’s just disrespectful to the consumer, whatever the reason behind it may be. If an artist is not going to speak, promote, dance, sing or do anything to engage with the public whatsoever, then they shouldn’t be releasing music. Simple as that.
Other Britney fans may think I’m being a jerk, but personally I’m only doing this out of my love and concern for Britney. I’d prefer no new music from her ever again than to have music released under these questionable and mysterious circumstances, which just causes me to worry about her wellbeing, and to feel disrespected by her team and record label who seem to believe that people will buy anything that they are told to. I really don’t care what Britney’s other fans think of her situation, and if they think everything is A-OK and this era is awesome and they want to spend their money on it, then that’s great for them. That’s their personal opinion, just as this is mine.
I still love Britney no matter what. She’s my most listened to artist of all time, I can see her DVDs stacked up on my bookshelf from where I am sitting right now, and if I turn around I can see all the wrist bands I kept from her Circus tour stuck to my wall with a thumbtack. She’s the wallpaper on my computer and her entire discography is uploaded on my iPod. She is the BEST, an original, an icon, and far more talented than she is ever given credit for. She’s the ONLY pop star this generation who has been worthy of being compared to Madonna, and even with her recent decline, nobody else has managed to close to her crown.
But enough is enough.
the prophet spilled all the true tea! i agree with him 100% remember when Queen B was dis bubbly!

False But I think Britney is fine. Her management just isnt doing a good job promoting this far but that can still change seeing as how there's over a month till the album.

sis what happened to this bubbly Louisiana gurl ? i miss her soo much! Britney's interivews used to be the bestttt ! she has yet to gave us any proper interviews in almost 6 years!
While I can understand a fan's concern, as a non-fan (and non-hater, who even buys her albums if the singles kick) I think that Britney is unstable. I think she may be better off staying private and quiet.
Even a two-minute phone interview can put pressure on a person.
edit: of course, if that's the case and it's too much for her, she would be better of PERSONALLY taking a long break.
She sure has the money to live a private but happy life.
I hope she will come out and prove those rumours wrong though.
She has still been working on the album, right? I guess, the next weeks will be decisive
