LOVE this so much!
Best part of this game, honestly, is all the exposure to music you may not have heard before. Glad you're liking it!

I don't even know why I said 'thursday'. I was probably thinking about something I'd have to do on thursday. The update is coming this weekend, for sure and, to be fair, I'll deduct 10 points from my entry because I didn't vote in time!

Great essay, that’s exactly how I would explain why a song won’t be useful for me in the game! Plus, this is such a bad song, it certainly wouldn’t do anything for you in any round, except for this one.
2. Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: Anything – 10/10
Great essay!!! You and Penk explained why the song won’t be useful for you in the game exactly how I would’ve done it! This song is so bad, it drags on forever, you couldn’t have made a better choice!
Penk and Luigi:
3. MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Guitar String/Wedding Ring – 8/10
You really dragged the hell out of this song! I agree with you, this song sucks big time! I just wish you had done some comparisons to other songs to explain why you would always have a better option in any other round, just like Penk and Luigi did. Good job tho!
4. Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: Little Things – 8.5/10
Oh, I see you with the Britney references in the beginning and end of the essay! Gosh, this song is bad, it really has nothing to offer! I just wish you had been a bit more specific mentioning which songs are better than Little Things, and in which way, instead of just saying there are songs that do what Little Things does, but better.
5. Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: Forgiven – 7/10
I’m torn. I get what you’re saying, but at the same time this is such a good song, I haven’t heard it before and all I wanna do right now is press replay again and again. Also, your essay isn’t strong enough, I wish you had been more specific and given examples of which songs would be a better option than Forgiven in different aspects, just like Penk and Luigi did.
6. Pedro - Shakira - Shakira.: Dare (La La La) – 5/10
First, let me say when I first saw the entries all I wanted to do was reply your entry with a huge WTF here in the thread! After reading your essay I was like “No Pedro no”. Now I get you didn’t choose Dare (La La La) because you think it’s a bad song, but still, I don’t think your reasons are strong enough, especially when compared to everyone else’s. Not liking to use a song twice is a weak explanation, the other one is what is giving some points here. You were doing so well, this was a huge step back for you.

This was pretty perfect I must say. It was very smart of you to mention how it could work in future rounds, but many other songs outshine it. That's what's important is what songs BEST fit a round and this song is never going to be that.
10/10
2. Luigi - The Velvet Rope
Talking about replaceability and disposability is very wise. It shows that this song is redundant and weaker than other songs you may need. You were very detailed in how it compares to other songs, but you were also a little redundant in your statements.
9/10
3. MusicLoverDude - Kiss
I get what you mean by it being random and unrealistic, but she's also helplessly in love. There are a lot of girls that think about marriage at first sight or at the start of a relationship because they fall so hard right away. I see potential in this song because you offered nothing to compare it to on the album which hurts your essay.
5/10
4. Bloomers - Yellow & Green
Again with the random other artist references? It's really distracting, just saying. I like how you went with a personal approach to this though. You explained why it offers little to you in terms of substance, but your essay is lacking in details about why you won't need it ever again. Plus, again, it was bogged down by these little shoehorned Britney references.
4/10
5. Capital B - Jagged Little Pill
That was a really nice way to begin with a quote from your previous critique. I love how you ended it too saying how it won't help you showcase the album in a more diverse way. I like this approach and I'm looking forward to what you bring to the table next.
10/10
6. Pedro - Shakira
I get what you're saying about La La La being superior, but I feel like it's too lightweight. Your essay doesn't REALLY tell me why Dare is so inferior. I agree with your opinion, but this essay wasn't what convinced me.
5.5/10

Great work this round! I think you hit all of the important points, and the song was pretty much the same formula done better by other songs on the album. I love how you used examples of certain potential themes, and demonstrated which songs would be better for those rounds.
2. Janet Jackson – 10/10
Very well explained, just like Penk’s essay. I think the approach you took was strong, and the song is definitely forgettable. Great work!
3. Carly Rae Jepsen – 7.5/10
This song is definitely on the weird side, but I think it could have applied to a few potential themes. For example, extremely catchy songs, or songs about being lost in love. If the finale challenge were similar to last season’s, I could see this song working well in the middle of a musical journey through the album. It’s not that bad, even if the lyrics are a little strange. I don’t think your reasoning this round is enough to support your claim.
4. Baroness – 7.5/10
I actually kind of like this song. I don’t really see it as filler. The guitar outro >>>>>>>
Your essay was cute. I liked the introduction about how there are three types of songs… that was a good foundation for your explanation. However, the rest of your essay was not very focused, in my opinion. I would have loved to see you show us how this song would not work compared to other songs on the album. Although I did love the references to other famous songs
5. Alanis Morissette – 9.5/10
I thought you were getting a little off track when I first started reading, but you really tied it all together at the end. I think was a very, very smart choice given your explanation. Using Kavish’s thoughts as a basis for this round was really great; after all, the judges’ comments are there for you to use and develop your entries in the game. I can’t wait to see what Alanis can bring us in the final few rounds, should you make it there!
6. Shakira – 8/10
I listened to both songs, and I definitely find the World Cup version more interesting. I like the strategic position you took with this choice. However, the explanation could have been better. I think you could have gone deeper with your reasons as to why this song was not worth keeping around.

You had a strategic approach, and at this point of the game, that's what it's all about. I was hoping you would sacrifice Dare (La La La) because you had already used it, and can still use the brazil version if you felt like using it again. Besides, like you mentioned, it has additional elements and the message of the song is more universal. Your essay bore a lot of strong points, but towards the end it felt more like a praise to the brazil version and strayed a bit away from why you were sacrificing Dare (La La La). You were tied with Penk and MusicLoverDude as you all topped my personal ranks 3 times. Now you dared to break the record, congrats!
|
 | Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: Forgiven
Your reason for sacrificing Forgiven was one of the strongest in the bunch because you are thinking strategically and this shows that you want to do what it takes to move forward and win. This was the underlying tone of this challenge, to discard a song that won't be useful in your journey to victory, and you understood that instead of just stating what's bad with the song. I know the pain of using different terms to describe songs when there are so many rounds, but I'm sure you'll find ways. In fact, not all rounds require that we have to describe the elements of the songs. You are one of the most well-spoken (written) contestant, and it's always a pleasure to read your essays. Please stay within the word limit.
|
 | MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Guitar String/Wedding Ring
This round, I expected formal reasons as to why contestants wouldn't use a song in this game. By formal reasons, I mean that I expected criticisms regarding vocals, instrumentation, lyrics, and other aspects such as strategy and so on. Your essay however is a unique approach in the sense that it regards a basic instinct of dislike for a song, and you used your personality to convey what you hate about the song, instead of just being systematic. We've all heard a song that made us go "what the f..", and this reaction is apparent in your essay. Using such a song would only be useful for a round like this and your humour throughout the explanation lightened the mood in the bunch.
|
 | Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: The Magic Hour
The Magic Hour possesses qualities that may be found on other, better songs, and therefore discarding it would be a good choice. I also understand how it may be unpleasant to write about the qualities of a song that you don't like that much, unless if it's for a round like this one. And this is where I think that you did not do it complete justice. You gave examples of a 'best vocal' round and a 'best lyric' round, where the song may have been used, but because Madhouse has the best vocal and Vanity Fair the best lyric, they would be better candidates. But what if there was a round about showcasing your artist's musical style in its entirety - instrumental, vocals and lyrics? Does Madhouse has the lyrics to accompany it? Does Vanity Fair has the vocals to accompany it? From what we derive from your essay, The Magic Hour has all the elements that makes it a quintessential Kimbra song, but you did not state the characteristcs that makes it less unique in comparison to the other songs. You focused on the lyric and vocal aspect, but were unclear about other songs on The Golden Echo that could showcase Kimbra's musical style in its entirety better than The Magic Hour.
|
 | Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: Anything
The first paragraph serves more the question 'which song is not needed on the album?' instead of 'which song is not needed in this game?'. The reasons you mentioned makes sense if we look at it within the album concept. Reaching the end of The Velvet Rope, Anything doesn't showcase any uniqueness, therefore feels redundant. But if you take the track out of the album and play with it, you can mention all the characteristics that it has without associating it to the other tracks, and we would see it as a good track. You touched the point in the second paragraph, and gave strong reasons as to why you wouldn't need it in the game. I think you always have strong ideas but don't really take time to construct them into stronger essays, for example there were a lot of sentences in this essay that meant the same thing.
|
 | Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: Little Things
Your introduction made me smile because I heard Circus on the radio this morning and whirled back to some sweet memories. Your pop girls references in your essays are actually making its way to be your signature style. Concerning the content however, I think this was your weakest yet. The reason for discarding this song is that it sounds like a filler and doesn't do much to you. Sure, it's a good reason to sacrifice a song that you have nothing to write about, but you also claimed that it has a similar theme or sounds as other tracks, so I think you could work with it if you had to. Besides, it's only a filler if we look at it in an album context. In the game context, you can always sell it to be a strong track because it's not being associated with Yellow & Green. The biggest problem here is that you only gave one reason, and you stretched it throughout the whole essay. It wasn't enough to make me go Ooh La La.

It's fine. I don't have any regrets this time around. I was the only contestant in the Top 6 that has been in the game every single season. To finally make it to the Top 10 after 3 years of playing this game, as well as playing with an album I had previously tanked with is incredible for me. I'm glad I was able to represent Carly's album fairly this time around without all the hatred that surrounded her following Call Me Maybe. I got to show off a lot of the songs on the album and play in rounds that I didn't get a chance to play in before. I guess it was just pure luck, considering all the people that dropped out of the game this season as well as Little Mix royally screwing up last round. But I knew my luck would run out eventually.
I'm proud of how far I came this time around, and I think my elimination came at the perfect time since the semester will start to ramp up, and my personal life needs a little more attention as well. And, the updates seem to be coming slower because of Pedro's personal life too. So having to wait for an update would feel similar to being stuck in a relationship with Scott (sorry for the weird comparison...)
Bye everyone!

The slow updates will not happen that much anymore. When your life turns around, you need time to adapt. Thanks for playing MLD.
And yes!!! I can't at Kavish being in a cemetery, lmfao

Fitting, because Kafish killed a lot of us this round!
Glad to finally get my groove back (kinda?).
This next round is very open ended... How exactly will it be judged? If you simply just don't justify it's "worth" well enough? And it's sorta the opposite of the last round in a way.
