This month, Lavigne became the first foreign artist ever to sell one million copies of each of her first three albums in Japan. She sold more than two million copies of her debut album, more than 1.5 million copies of her second album, and now more than a million of her latest album, including 288,000 imported copies and 716,000 units of a Japanese edition that was released here in April. The first single from her new album, Girlfriend, has been downloaded more than two million times to Japanese cellphones.

Lavigne has made a big effort to reach her Japanese audience. In addition to several tours of Japan, she used a manga novel and several anime shorts to promote her latest album, primarily to appeal to Japanese fans. Japanese was among eight languages that she used to sing the chorus of alternative recordings of her Girlfriend hit single.

first let me congratulate you that you wrote ******** like this and not how you had written it before
second: Nelly's first two albums weren't flops at all, coz it sold more than some of the so called starts in the US, still they don't go and say they were flops.
This is just the avril fans who always say to anyone that it is a flop coz they think Avril is so perfect(yes with her new nose definietly near to perfect, but if I were her I would go under a plastic surgery coz my squint eyes )
If you knew anything about album sales you wouldn't have said that Nelly only has good albumsales after 10 singles, coz she had the majority of her album sold hile her 4 main singles was out and not with the fillers. It's obvious that Avril will release filers too - what will you say then? "oh yeah it's just good old avril releaseing singles" but when it comes to other starts for example Nelly you always go - "single *****"

If you think that way, Norah's Feel Like Jones (which sold 11M) can be a HUGE FLOP comparing to Come Away With Me (which sold 20M) huh ?

And Kelly Clarkson's career would be OVER because MD sold 11 times less than Breakaway ?

And many artists like Gwen, Ciara ? Their 2nd albums sold 50% less than their 1st ones !
