Official synopsis: A FAMILY DINNER — Sheriff Forbes delivers some disturbing news to Alaric and Elena about the weapon used in a recent murder. In the Salvatore brothers’ escalating quest to kill Klaus, Stefan turns to Bonnie and Abby (guest star Persia White), while Damon reaches out to an old acquaintance for help in setting up an elaborate plan. Intent on a plan of his own, Klaus hosts a strange dinner party, where he reveals another story from his family’s violent past until an unexpected guest brings the party to an end. Meanwhile, Caroline is heartbroken when she is unable to stop a tragedy from unfolding.

'The Vampire Diaries' fourth coffin opens, plus: Who is going to die?

"The Vampire Diaries" returns tonight after a short break, and we couldn't be more excited to get back to Mystic Falls. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) has been hard at work renovating his new family home (or, at least, his hybrid minions have been) and now it's time for his first housewarming party. Unfortunately for him, there are some unexpected guests about to crash it.

While Klaus may not be too pleased by Elijah's (Daniel Gillies) arrival, we certainly are. Elijah's not particularly psyched that Klaus killed him after Elijah saved his life -- and we expect that he'll be even more angry when he learns that Klaus killed his mother.

Apparently not on Klaus's guest list, Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Abby (Persia White) are still working on opening the mysterious fourth coffin -- which they suspect holds the key to Klaus' defeat. Fans can expect them to pop the top in tonight's episode, ending weeks of speculation.

We particularly liked the theory that the Original Petrova would be waiting in that coffin, but while Nina Dobrev certainly has the skills to pull off three characters, we have our doubts as to whether she actually has the time.

Meanwhile, one of our favorite characters may be experiencing a significant loss. Fans of "The Vampire Diaries" are no strangers to death, and there's one coming up very soon. A character we've seen more than once is going to meet his end -- stirring up major grief and major suspicions in Mystic Falls.

I expect Nina Dobrev's salary to increase. Or they can have actress Emmanuelle Chriqui "Entourage" to play the original Petrova.
