I also like that at YG, you don't no longer exist once you go to the army. Look at Teddy - he's one of the most integral parts of the label. Their Japanese promotion might not always be on point, but their actual music is always top notch. YG himself never accepts less than the best for his artists, and that's going to make all the difference in the long run. Secondary note - have you ever noticed how distinct every member's personality is? Even though they're not constantly on variety shows, you can detect very cool qualities unique to people like CL (queen like aura), Dara (bubbly personality), G-Dragon (confident prince), Taeyang (sex bomb) and Bom (corn).
2) SM. You can call them slave masters, you can bitch about the many strange things that happen, you can lament your members' disappearances and/or elimination from groups. But damn if they're not extremely consistent. SM is crucial to the existence of k-pop; if it weren't for H.O.T., the genre wouldn't be anywhere close to where it is today. Which brings up another point - almost everything SM does, save the few failures like Black Beat and MILK (CJSH? maybe), is massive. They've got fantastic title tracks for all of their groups, and they've provided the highest number of k-pop classics out of any label between the songs and videos of H.O.T., TVXQ, Super Junior, and SNSD. SHINee is one of the most consistent groups in all of k-pop in every field - great singles, fantastic albums, solid to great vocals across the board live and in studio, on-point choreography and great looking members. f(x) was one of the most unique debuts of their year, in a world ruled by SNSD knockoffs. EXO made a risky move by debuting with a song that's actually serious, but in the long run you know it'll work for them. Lee Soo Man is a raging ****, by all means, but as a music powerhouse SM is fantastic.
3 but certainly not last) JYP. JYP himself is so distinctly human that you can't help but fight for him. People joke about him always wanting part of the spotlight to himself, but he kind of deserves it. After being a star of his own style for years and contributing much to how k-pop grew as a scene and genre, for him to be managing a label and producing so often is incredible. He's the talent behind some of the biggest k-pop songs both locally and internationally of all time; if it weren't for "Tell Me" and "Nobody," we wouldn't even be discussing any groups coming over here. WG might not be the most successful in the US, but they have always been breaking new ground, which is likeable. JY's artists don't always have great grounds for showing their personality in their music (like JoKween for example), and sometimes he has an issue with letting his groups do the same thing repeatedly (2PM has a lot of similar-sounding title tracks between their Korean and Japanese discographies). I'm also still sour about the whole Jay Park/Jaebum thing; I realize it wasn't JY himself that made the final decision and it might have been for the best that he left considering the controversy, but with how the nation is warming up to him now, I wish the two would have worked together to get through the situation a little better. 2PM would be one of the biggest international groups if it weren't for that whole mess, which to me probably could have been prevented with some intense searching. If a netizen can find it, even if that makes them pathetic, a label can find it and remove it. I also don't know how I feel about WG's several lineup changes. If HyunA is in 4Minute now, couldn't she have just waited to get healthier for WG? And plenty of k-pop stars do college; why did we have to lose one of WG's members for that? Hyelim is corny-cool though.

B2ST would be a lot less...lacking in wow factor if they got a JYP title track. But I don't see it happening for plenty of reasons.

SM always put our hopes up about SNSD new releases and drop an album full of fillers.
I'm sorry, but i love SNSD too much, and that type of thing makes me hate SM even more. (already hate them due the whole TVXQ/JYJ thing)
I mean, listen to their japanese album and then listen to The Boys, it's like 2 different artists.

The only boy group touching the quality of SHINee is BIG BANG, but that's pretty obvious. BIG BANG is quite above them. SHINee may be their "sons" but at least they come close. I'll stand by that.

This is one of the things that pisses me off the most. If they were going to go for a repack with altered tracklist in America anyway, couldn't they have released the one with better music? There would have been no harm, no foul in a tri-lingual disc, as crazy as it sounds. Keep Korean title tracks in Korean, the Boys in English, that Dev feature on the Bad Girl remix if they want that on a bonus disc or something...the whole thing could have been managed much better.
I love that they were on Letterman and Kelly, but ****, the copy of the Boys I have is nothing more than a really pretty coaster.

I concur, but they still have a long way to go. Maybe if SM let them release more often.

Also a criticism of SM I have.
SNSD got Oh, Run Devil Run and Hoot in the same year.
SHINee spent 2011 dormant in Korea.
