So you think the entire reason Katys biggest hit in the US was a success was due to Kanye? Since the song leaked about 10 months before it was released, and was released as a promo single 6 months before it was released to radio? (Not to mention LFN, TOTGA and POM, all of which leaked over a year before being released as singles).
The internet and leaks are very different things, and the internet didn't really ruin sales that much - it just ruined record labels sneaky tactics. Imagine if the 6 million people in the US who bought E.T. had to buy the album to get it because Capitol didn't release a physical CD single for purchase? Welcome to the 90s.
Adele has proven that if you focus on album quality rather than hit singles you can still have sales that would have been impressive in the 90s.
