The lowdown: In these uncertain times for the music industry, you can’t quite blame Katy for remaking “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”; after all, it gave her a record-tying* #1 hit. It’s just that this was completely the wrong approach, replacing carefree California hedonism with trying-too-hard international materialism and a misguided attempt at hip-hop attitude that nearly ruins one of her best songs by association.
ATRL says...: "Cringeworthy yet again," lovesong said. "Kidz Bop Kids realness," suggested J. YONCÉ. "Nothing amazing but let's not act like it's terrible," Doogle wrote. "I bop from time to time." adrianbeane and August both unexpectedly defended the song. "Katy's at her best when she tries to emulate someone else's pop music," adrianbeane reasoned. "Robyn says hi here." August suggested "the beauty of this song is the fact that Katy actually seems fun when she isn't taking herself so seriously. I'll take the spoken parts and 'Mariah Carey-oke' over 'I went from zero to my own hero' any day."
Best bit: Imagining Katy "sucking real bad" at said "Mariah Carey-oke"
Ha 10th #1getting dragged eew yall ain't got tastes
Supa, you forgot my commentary:
"That's the corniest song she's ever done. Still better than any ballad on her album, but still corny. The Japanesy verse is worse than anything Gaga could have wrote for ARTPOP."
I totally forgot about this rate not almost 20 songs out already, n.
And not a single Beyoncé song eliminated "Rooting For My Baby" is coming for that 1# !
The graphics are awesome, @supaspaz . Wonderful job .
