MK9 had the regular edition, Kollector's Edition & Tournament Edition. The Tournament Edition came with a joystick & I wasn't a fan of it. I am SURE MKX will have some AWESOME editions just like MK9 did.
I also forgot to add that the MK9 Kollector's Edition came with an artbook of all kinds for concepts that went into the making of MK9.
The only games I ever buy "special editions" of are Mortal Kombat, Tekken & Twisted Metal... thusfar. So far, the best one was the MK9 package I got. It really blew me away.
I also just realized how hard (and long) I have been stanning for MK... even thru the years they were having trouble (MKM:SZ, MK:4, MK:G & MK:SF).

I promised myself to never buy collector's edition of games ever again after I bought the FFXIII edition with the hardcover strategy guide and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 with the art booklet. I ended up playing those two games for a little under a fortnight. Lol.
I really wanted to buy the collector's edition of SFIV (the vanilla version) due to hype, but thank the lord I didn't because I sucked at that game and never played it again after unlocking Rose and Cammy.

In my opinion, I think Ed Boon is finally going the dark and gritty route he talked about back in 2008 before MKvsDC came out. Here's a little snippet of what he said:
EB: Our goal, graphically, with this game is to be as gritty and (I don’t like to use the word “dirty,” because I don’t want to imply not-cool graphics but) a very dark, serious Mortal Kombat. Not vibrant, saturated colors, but more of a really down and dirty Mortal Kombat game. To me, when I saw Gears of War, I was like, “Holy sh*t! That’s the look that we’ve been talking about” Visually, that’s what we want to do...Our visual presentation and our game presentation and our thing that you’ll hear about very soon are all going to be new to this game. It’s going to be nothing like you’ve ever seen before.
Also I think the MKX costumes where heavily inspired by ex-Midway staff Vincent Proce's sketches who described his designs as a dark and serious Mortal Kombat. I mean, look at his designs and notice how they look somewhat similar to the costumes Scorpz and Subz wear in MKX.
But honestly, to me, I think Ermacs costume looks inspired by Scarecrow from the Batman series, with a little bit of MK flair added to it. And I really think WB is trying to make MK, the DC of fighting games. And I've heard Scorpion costume looks Assassins Creed inspired. Who knows, maybe NRS is taking inspiration from other video games. That is how Mortal Kombat started after all.

My Mortal Kombat game "Kollection":
All the games laid out on my MK9 poster. Notice no MKvsDC present in the pic
Edit: But notice I DO own MK: Special Forces & MK: Tournament Edition (For GBA & Sareena's first fighting game appearance). Also, with my purchase of the Special Edition MK:A (Johnny Cage/Goro Edition) I got 2 pictures... one of the cover of Johnny Cage & Goro, the other of the full roster of MK:A. I own the Wii Version of MK:A also because I wanted to play as Khameleon

You bish, am jealous
You have Special Forces and Mythologies. I don't have those anymore, but I have something you don't have and thats Mortal Kombat the Journey Begins VHS. Ha! take that

I remember seeing those concept art around MK2011 release. There was also this cool Raiden and Kano one....It's this one.
I do hope they go the gritty route, it gives the game such a mysterious edge to it. They should also attempt in adding in a damage gauge. Like a realism mode where your faced gets all bruised up and clothes gets ripped up from all the blows. I also want the faces the look all weathered down from age.

She'll definitely come back, unless Kitana is dead in this game (which I doubt).

I'm excited about this dark+gritty theme this time I hope there's still some humor to it though.

Those concept arts may very well be featured in MKX, remember Ed said we'd see different variations of the fighters

Hopefully that means we'll get the serious, more mature Mileena from the original timeline.

My worst fear is that they've give Sonya this costume
And you damn well know they'll give her this costume. The only difference is that they'll give her a low crop top to show 100% more cleavage.

I'm ready for Sonya's outfit being revamped a bit
It's the same basic white tee with army fatigue pants like bye
