The Avengers is a movie that literally appeals to every demographic, and virtually every news piece on the movie's box office success has acknowledged this.

The Nolanverse of Batman movies is considerably darker, and easily alienates small children and most women. The main reason that TDK did so well on its opening weekend was anticipation to see Heath Ledger's last completed role, the buzz that it was the greatest superhero movie ever made, and a flawless viral marketing blitz.

The Dark Knight Rises has to live up to those expectations, it has a villain that simply won't stand up to The Joker, and the marketing for the movie has been extremely weak, especially compared to TDK.

It'll make $178Mill opening weekend, mark my words.

These are the ones I agree with but seriously how many people really care about Black Widow. Cat Woman>>>>>> and everyone knows the Avengers 6 superheros are all weaker than Batman in star power. I mean if it came down to people listing their favorite superheros before The AVengers came out Batman would easily be one of the first 3-4 choices. Only the Hulk and Iron Man are the big names from the Avengers

Perfectly well said. The marketing for TDKR has been extremely weak and non-existent. The movie comes out in 2 months. They're relying too heavily on the success and hype of Dark Knight, to cross over to TDKR. I also agree with your first weekend estimations. This film is too dark to attract a wider demographic. It also doesn't help that Nolan has been so ambiguous about this film. He won't reveal anything, not even the plot.

Fanboy comic wars are seriously just as bad as, popstar battles.

Dark Knight Rises won't be able to compete with Avengers international gross/appeal.

But the reason why TDK got such strong legs was because the movie itself was that good. And I have no doubt in my mind TDKR will be even better.

Apart from that, I agree that it won't beat The Avengers' US opening week.
