What do you think of Rey?

Is she, the obvious choice, Luke's daughter? This theory stems from the obvious affinity between the two and all of the hints they use. I'm wary about this one, JJ loves his red herrings and he was a little on the nose with this.

Is she a relative of Obi-Wan Kenobi? This theory took off after we found out Ewan McGregor was hired specifically for Rey's flashback and he specifically says her name. They also play the Force theme during Rey's encounter with Kylo, this has only occurred during Obi-Wan's fights.

Is she one of Luke's younglings of his old Jedi Order, hidden away before Kylo Ren could destroy or corrupt her? She very much seems to have latent powers, as if she were awakening powers that were put to sleep, perhaps a mind-sweep?

Could she possibly be related to one of the Knights of Ren or even someone sinister like Palpatine or Supreme Leader Snoke? Snoke and Kylo knew of Rey before they met her. Kylo wanted to turn her and Snoke seemed interested in her.

Or is she just a poor little girl whose parents abandoned her?

A spoiler interview with a guy who came up with the story for Ep VII:

"Early on I tried to write versions of the story where [Rey] is at home, her home is destroyed, and then she goes on the road and meets Luke," he explained following a screening of the movie. "And then she goes and kicks the bad guy’s ass. It just never worked and I struggled with this. This was back in 2012." Why then was the decision made to cut down Luke's role so significantly? "It just felt like every time Luke came in and entered the movie, he just took it over. Suddenly you didn’t care about your main character anymore because, ‘Oh f–k, Luke Skywalker’s here. I want to see what he’s going to do.’"

Unless Kasdan changed a lot after taking over this 'her home is destroyed, and then she goes on the road and meets Luke' kinda tells me that they didn't really plan for Rey to be his daughter and I still don't think she is

Even if you're seeing this movie for the first time without prior knowledge, wouldn't you not ask yourself:


1. How, of all planets in the galaxy, did Finn, Rey, and BB-8 find each other? I thought Finn crash-landed randomly on a PLANET. Finn was able to find randomly Rey and BB-8, but not Poe? Did anyone not really flinch at Poe's disappearance and seemingly random appearance?
2. How did Rey acquire the knowledge to fly the Millennium Falcon or any space ship? The movie made it appear like she was more competent than Han Solo or Chewie, despite this being her first time on a space ship. When she was taken to the Star Killer, how did she know the way around which buttons to push to escape?
3. Of all space ships, Rey and Finn had to board the Millennium Falcon and be intercepted by Han Solo. Really, out of the vast space out there and random chances, this had to happen?
4. Finn, with a training as a storm trooper, was suddenly very good at killing other storm troopers and wound a Jedi knight? How was that possible?
5. Rey, untrained, but was able to use the light saber and almost kill Kylo Ren? How?
6. I know that she was held at gunpoint, but how did a captain Phasma give up so easily to a stormtrooper and Han Solo and lower down the shield of an ENTIRE planet. For a soldier trained since birth, how did this happen? And she gave it up in under a few minutes. LOL.

It's an awful film. Even if you haven't seen any of the other, far superior, Star Wars films.

Why are people bothered this much? Common guys, y'all are not buttons, don't need to be pressed like this. The movie is good, it need to be a throback to the OT and it did it successfully, stop with the "it's a remake" thing because it's just nonsense.

Avatar and LOTR are epic fantasies too but you root for the heroes because they go through real ordeals. Frodo, for instance, almost died getting that ring to Mount Doom. He had assistance from the fellowship. Jake from Avatar was a great pilot before he went to that planet. He did not have anything else to live for on Earth so he basically gave his all for this new planet.

But Rey. I mean, when you have a deux ex machina, you don't really have a story anymore. She hops on a space ship for the first time = no problem. You imprison her in a cell = no problem, she can find her way out. You give her a light saber for the first time = no problem; she almost killed a Sith lord/jedi.

Sorry but these are all dumb questions. After Finn said "we need a pilot," she said "we got one," referring to herself. She know how to fly, she obviously had problems flying the falcon, so not a very good one.
