For one, Taylor is just as much a part of vapid celebrity culture as Kim is. Yes, she "actually does something!!!!! (release extremely basic and easy to digest pop music)", so do most celebrities. Two, I'm a teenage girl. I like Kim for things like her #hairgoals and fashion and because she seems fun on snapchat. Nothing strange about it, considering most people in my demographic like her for the same reasons.
Can't say the same for everyone else and their faves though.

People like taylor because she's an amazing songwriter that makes incredible music. I love dissecting her lyrics and learning stories about her life and for people who actually write songs like jake and all the fact that she shares voice memos that help go through her songwriting process is pretty helpful. This isn't just me being stan war'd either she actually makes GOAT lists and wins tons of grammys. She's kind and sweet and consistently the most charitable celebrity in the world. I like how she makes time for her fans on social media and supports less successful artists and promotes them on twitter and lets them perform at her tours rather than having the whole holier than thou attitude.
Alongside beyonce she really gave the whole female empowerment and you can have female friends a huge push recently (although I admit BB was a minor screw up, she should never have given people the chance to assume it was about katy).
