Perhaps she could totally play us late October with the prospect of a second single early November but then have us all forget during the strong ARTPOP Nov-Dec album campaign.
The dreaded single freeze during the Christmas season that everyone freaks out about might make it best for her to hold out (yet hype) a second single and keep Applause rolling.
If Gaga averages 150,000k~ a week in the US (she's currently well above that) for the 16 remaining weeks of the year we'll have a 3M single on our hands.
You're right about international success for Applause though. Maybe she should announce big, headline-worthy things like the cover, tracklist, etc. in the next month so as to keep from launching a WW promo campaign too early.
October will be an interesting month. We'll soon see where she takes this.
