There are already a lot of algorithms in place to prevent "false" updates from going through. I don't think it will ever be enough. I can't make the algorithms too strict, cause then it might start ignoring the real updates.
I've always wondered, you dont have to manually refresh the numbers do you? It just updates whenever itunes changes?

Yes I only updated manually in the early days. Now it's just a program that runs every 10 minutes, reads all the popbars, and then decides if they've been updated or not. The popbars often glitch and go back in time a little, which can sometimes cause these false updates.
