PLAY COUNT RANKING

SCORING METHODOLOGY:
In an effort to eliminate factors (for example, the age of an album, newer computers, reset counts, etc.) that might tamper with an accurate ranking of all Kelly's songs, a specific scoring methodology will be employed. For every participant, each album will be given an equal weight (1 point) and its point will then be distributed among the album's songs according to the percentage of total album plays the given song has. For example:

Person A:

Stronger = 1596 plays
Mr. Know It All = 145 plays
What Doesn't Kill You = 223 plays

145/1596 = .0909% (roughly)
223/1596 = .1397% (roughly)

This means Person A contributes approximately .0909 points to the overall score for Mr. Know It All and .1397 points for Stronger (WDKY). Each album for every person will be calculated in precisely the same fashion, and subsequently all points for each song will be added together (so, the points from Persons A, B, C, etc., for Since U Been Gone will be compiled). Thus, a list ranking the plays for all of Kelly's five albums will be created whilst minimizing factors that could negatively influence the results.

I might alter these dates slightly as needed (this includes moving them both earlier and later), but the following stand for now:

01 June 2012 - Sign up begins.
05 June 2012 - Begin sending play counts.
08 June 2012 - Play counts due.
10 June 2012 - Last chance for late plays.
11 June 2012 - First batch of results presented.

I'd love to do the all time KC ranking but I can't. I've had like 8 computers since I started listening to Kel and I don't even have all her albums uploaded on my current laptop. There's no way I could know even a CLOSE estimate of any of the numbers. lol

Well, I'm going to calculate the ranks in a way that age won't be a factor. I'm thinking that each album will be given x number of points, and depending of the percentage of plays one song has on that album, it will be assigned a certain number of points:

Person A:
Stronger: 1596 plays
MKIA: 145 plays
WDKY: 223 plays
[etc.]

Therefore, MKIA would earn 145/1596 points, or .0909 points from that person. If each person's scores are calculated this way and then everyone's are added up, then the resulting ranking should be fairly accurate and hopefully not be too greatly influenced by the ages of various albums.

I have the same problem The only source that I can trust so far is my lastfm account which made over a year ago All Kelly's songs in my library was played 5644 times (in one year )

That's perfectly fine. Because I'm going to make the results *relative*, rather than exactly based on the exact plays each song has, it doesn't matter if one album has a terribly low number of plays (because of changing computers or the like). Those discrepancies will be mellowed out in the end.
