Oh ****, is Maria actually going to end the year @ #1? No way Petra's beating her in the final, not ever, but especially not with Maria being convinced it's Summer 2006 / January 2008.
I mean, I guess the only thing that'll get Serena motivated to play YEC even on a wheelchair is blocking Maria from taking her #1, so there's that
Two Czechs in the finals of a Premier/Masters tourney, when will your flop countries
@Alejandrawrrr You think Petra has no chance? I'm predicting a 3-set battle, if Petra has serve and Masha doesn't... everything is possible
P3tra vs M3ria
Not now. Maria's in great form and Petra, while on a nice enough win streak, isn't peaking. I can't see any result other than a) Maria coming out giving her an AO 08 Davenport dragging, or b) this going to three, in which case Maria is fitter and more dogged/just better mentally. I see like,a 50% chance of the former, 49% chance of the latter, and 1% chance of DFPova making her debut and then anything can happen
Even though I love and am rooting for Petra, if past form is an indication Maria deserves it, so we'll just have to see
Watch those nicknames. I just ended up getting a few I made months ago during the French
Petra is so taking this one. And I hope she does as it'll help Serena keep the YE#1
We need revenge from Miami. If we remember, she was still with Radek at that time which is why she lost. Now that she won another Wimbledon, this should be interesting. All she have to do is hit her first serves with precisions, and move Maria around. Like 2011 Wimbledon all over again.
Serena can keep #1 for the rest of the year, and then she's gonna pass down the torch to the future of tennis, Petra, to begin the 2015 season. I don't think Petra has any points to defend during the Aussie swing, no?.
P.S Although I love both queens battling out tomorrow

It can go 50/50. Beijing 2012 was pretty interesting, because she was storming through the matches, even giving Li a 60-64 scoreline, and then just to lose 61-63 to Vika (which wasn't surprising).
I hope Petra brings her A+ game tomorrow. She doesn't have 14-4 Finals record for nothing. She better bring it.
But I'm okay with whoever wins. Great tournament so far. Lots of drama, lots of heart racing matches, and the trainer took the blood pressure of the wrong player
Petra is the heir to Serena Williams. Everyone thought it was gonna be Vika, especially in 2012, but the thing with GOATs are, if they are playing their best, no one can beat them. Seles, Graf, Navratilova, and Serena all proved that.
When Kvitova is peaking, no one can challenge her (except for 34 year old Venus on grass ). Even Sharapova peaking can lose, like to Serena

While I don't agree 50/50, I was being a drama queen. Of course Petra has a chance, I just definitely favor Maria in this final. 5-2 is also fairly conclusive, as well, especially eliminating grass
What I WILL say is, I think the first set is crucial for Petra. I do not see her coming back from a set down to beat Maria of all people, now.

You're right. She's so ****ing slow and it's so funny how she trips over her own feet .
but she can learn with practice. Look at Pova. She's not only fast (well she was always fast tbh) but she finally learned somewhat how to play defense. So as long as she doesn't run into Petra, Caroline () or Serena you can expect her to play through any offense

There's one thing that are similar about Serena and Petra: they are both shotmakers, winners from the short, from the baseline, from the run, from the net, and most importantly the serve. It's the serve that makes all the difference. Both have amazing placements, especially Petra with that wide serve, and Serena with that T-serve.
Maria is well, as much as I love her, she has her shotmaking moments, but for the most part she's just someone who hits the ball hard, like Davenport. You may disagree me on this..
But bottom line is.. there's a fine difference between heavy shotmakers, and ballbashers.

Maria has always been fast, but the problem is that she's a stiff wood. Her service motion is so stiff, which leads to huge margin for double faults. Take a look at Venus' serve motion. It's so fluid and graceful, which gives her a lot of placement variety, and of course the power to hit through even Serena.
Petra's service motion is pretty fluid as well, but Maria needs to change her service motion during the off-season for reals. She's too stiff.

Wow, you're making a very great point about their service styles, I never thought of it like that.
Masha's really worked hard on her movement, look at this highlights tbh, the whole match was an eye-candy, one of the best this year!!!
@ 2:32 BEST RALLY OF 2014
sidenote: notice how she stopped screaming
If Petra wins, she'll become #2, so I'm rooting for homegirl, Masha
