I have their music on shuffle right now and I have to say.... I still think Take Me Home is BY FAR their best album.

It all still sounds so fresh to me even now, and I like so many songs.

Take Me Home had so many bops. I wish MM was more pop and less folksy/rock.

I much prefer their pop sound as well.

However, they needed to have some commercial success with their singles.... so it was probably a smart move on their part.

SOML is their second most successful single after WMYB in the USA and WW.

I don't really think Midnight Memories is that bad, and the change in sound was necessary imo. As good as Take Me Home is, I think another 18-track album full of homogeneous power pop would be a bit overkill. Some of their newer material is kinda bad (Don't Forget Where You Belong and Something Great), but some of it is done right (You and I and Through the Dark).

Although Take Me Home's sound is completely predictable, the quality of the tracks is very consistent. They are all very addictive.

SOML is doing great. 5 weeks in the Hot 100 top 10 and it has 2x platinum on lock. Maybe 3 if it all works out.

Midnight Memories will be a massive flop though

I'm actually really loving MM! I wanted a change and I got it so I can't complain. I've realized how much I listen to the new album in comparison to TMH when it came out and I basically paid it dust The fact that nearly every song is interchangeable, plus the messy single choices is why I'm pretty sure TMH is my least favourite album so far
