I've been doing these rates prior to being on ATRL, and these types of rates are always a bad idea. No one will agree on a 'signature' song for an artist, and they're generally a magnet for trolling, stan wars and argument. People give 0/10s based on stan ideals, and it's always the same dry-ass result. You don't even need to do the rate to know that Crazy in Love vs Toxic vs Bad Romance vs a Madonna song will end up the inevitable outcome.

The rates weren't always such a mess. But I think after jinzo and madonnas started participating and giving everything a 1.5, it became a strategy for some people. Too bad, because now only the really obvious stuff has a chance.

Now wait! I generally give the most popular stuff the 1.5s (did you see the US #1s thread?), never usually the unpopular stuff. I'm pretty fair throughout and I give a wide range of scores and they're always balanced and never fully in the favour of a single particular artist. Ask everyone that's ever ran a rate, I'm always fair. I just use the full scale of 0 to 10.

I always think these rates that are slightly above their station are a recipe for all sorts of disaster. Plus, when we do something that big....where's there to go from there rates-wise?

Sorry, I don't mean to suggest that you're trolling these rates. You are pretty fair throughout. But people have definitely learned from your example and turned it into a strategy. Some of the big recent rates (like the 2004-05 Behemoth) have been an utter mess!
