It is obvious that certain people on here are going to try and drag the song no matter how it sounds.

The fact that there are a million judgments being placed already tells me that people have it set in their mind that the song is a failure without even hearing it. I have nothing wrong with a negative opinion because not everyone in the world is going to like it but it is clear some people are determined that they are going to hate it and look for any reason to drag Katy.

Me too, I can't stand people who shame perfectly fun pop songs because they don't have some ~triple meaning~ to them.
I prefer my favorite artists to deliver with pure pop perfection songs with an album filled with a mixture of mindless pop and some more personal songs blended in.

I was thinking about why TD experienced the success it did and I realized that one of the main reasons is that every song is a hit. A lot of artists get lazy, or only bother to record a few radio friendly songs (ala OOTB). Katy really put in a lot of work to make the songs radio friendly, yet personal and easy to relate to. So popstars should write a note because that is the formula for success that so many artists are failing to achieve right now.

The formula used for Teenage Dream and execution of the entire era was absolutely brilliant and proved that her label is a force to reckon with. With their cooperation and Katys radio friendly, fun pop music with a smaller layer of personal ballads is the perfect combination to appeal to a wider audience. I for one don't need a song to have some deeper meaning and some artistic history to it, and most people in America don't either and thats why Katy will continue to reign supreme.

Katy and her team did do an amazing job last era in execution. It maybe a general statement but it is a true one. Her team put in the work and it paid off. They didn't just sit their and watch the singles/album sink or swim. Even when the album debuted to unexpected low numbers the label never gave up on it like most would do and they walked away with a big return.

I mean even her Billboard cover recognized that.

Those deep, triple meaning songs don't last very long. I also prefer things simpler, more melodic, more replay value, easy breezy.

This. I hope this is not her "Rated R" moment. I wasn't a fan of Rated R when it came out, but I only started liking it last year. I feel like if Prism goes the Rated R route, I won't be jamming it until my musical taste is finally mature for it.
