I REALLY wonder how R8 is going to be percieved when it first drops. When Rated R dropped, everyone acted like it was a terrible album bc it wasn't as pop as GGGB. Now people say it's her best.

Me too. I honestly feel like majority on here will bash it. I can already see posts saying "her fans hyped this album up and its not even that good" " she spent all that time and the album still filled with fillers"

But if the critics praise it then most people will follow suit, whether it is really is good or bad.

For me all I want is a cohesive sound ( IDC about a specific genre) and great imagery/ packaging. Proper videos throughout the era.

They already started saying that with the instagram snippets.
And i remember when the UNA snippets first dropped, i read the YT comments and most people were saying it was her worst album.

But i do agree that people will change their mind based on what critics say.
Because some of the most praised albums on here with a high metacritic score aren't even the best in that artists discography.

I think ATRL's opinion will be based on genre/sales rather than critical reception. People will have a field day trying to assess the album based on the lead single and especially the snippets... ugh. I hate snippets. They never portray an accurate picture of a song. I might ban myself in the week leading up to R8, or just avoid ATRL I want to hear the album in its entirety and I don't want ATRL influencing my opinions.

Veteran navy, how did you guys initially listen to the previous albums? How did you avoid the stan hype/craziness and soak in the music?

I wasn't on any online forums/ twitter before TTT. I joined twitter back when BC dropped and thats when i began interacting with other fans online.

SO UNA was my first. & I couldn't resist NOT listening to the snippets, they leaked on some site called lavalizard. I got my entire life from them

I first heard RATED R on YouTube the day it came out (it had leaked like a week earlier). I was obsessed from the first listen. It was what secured my stanship.
But I was already into social media at the time, and people were saying it wasn't as good as GGGB. When I joined ATRL, people were saying the same thing and were calling it depressing bc it wasn't sugary pop. They also said it only got its acclaim bc of the incident. The Navy loved it though, and it was a fun era for us. We had to fight off a lot of Hive/CB stans but you know how that goes.
I'm most happy that my fav song off the album at the time went #1.

Why would we avoid it. That's the fun of atrl. I'm kinda sad that I only lurkd back then during the Loud release.

I listened to the Unapologetic snippets when they came out and it only made me more excited to buy it. I remember people calling it messy and uncohesive, but now everyone seems to have come to the consensus that it's one of Rih's best.
