And for Christ's sake, SC Justices can be political but only to a certain degree. Why else do you think Republicans and Democrats fight for the opportunity to nominate their candidates for the rare open positions? Hell, that's why Republicans have been obstructing Obama's choice this year because they want to shape the court's future.

You're wrong. The Founding Fathers always intended on the constitution to be a true living document, capable of adapting to modern times. And it's one of the few living documents with such a longevity in modern society. In fact, I don't think there's anything that suggests that they wanted this set in stone. Maybe the fact that it takes so much time and effort to ratify a new amendment or even amend a current one is what you're thinking of; but that was a built-in safe mechanism to protect the minorities. Plus the second amendment is probably the one amendment that needs a more clear interpretation (seeing the time period it was written for in no longer applies in our lifetime) for the sake of public safety.
