holyground, why are you leaving the game? I think I missed that.
Just submitted my entry...ended up being really happy with it, but WOW it's hard to talk about one song in 250 words let alone two songs also in 250 words...managed it though!

Choose The Album, Then a Song 7: VOTE! [R9]
Welcome to the seventh season of ATRL original game
Choose The Album, Then a Song
Welcome to the ninth round!
We are back! Since you had to pick two songs and work on both of them, you all had an extra day to build your entry. But before we move on to that, we do have some news.
Good news to the contestants but bad news to whoever was supporting Lorde in this game. Holyground was forced to quit the game and the person he selected to take over his album was nowhere to be seen and so he is eliminated. The first spot is free, y'all!
We are down to SIX players... Or maybe not, check the entries:
T H E R U L E S
For six seasons this game had its ups and downs and to make sure the 'downs' part won't happen again, I had to create a set of rules. So if you're signing up, this means you agree to:
1. DURING THE VOTING PERIOD, YOU'LL HAVE TO CAST YOUR VOTE (OTHERWISE YOU'RE PENALIZED);
2. YOU CAN NOT ASK FANS/FRIENDS TO SAVE YOUR ALBUM;
3. THE JUDGES HAVE TO BE FAIR. IF YOU DETECT BIASNESS OR UNFAIRNESS, LET ME KNOW.

1. Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Teen Heat || Goldmine

Teen Heat is a song that was not an immediate favorite of mine, but after spending many months with this album, it grew to be my absolute favorite. The song talks about losing your virginity, and being young and not thinking about the consequences of anything. It's about the nostalgia of thinking about when you were a teenager in love, and how life changing of an experience it could be. Kimbra's sensual vocal performance only adds to it, with a dramatic and epic chorus offering some of her most explicit lyrics to date ("The flesh and bone in me, it's fighting everything, but it feels so good) The honesty of the song is great as well, and shows how sex is such a powerful thing, even when you want to keep your morals intact ("Wanna keep this sacrosanct"), sometimes it's unstoppable. With enough hooks and harmonies to keep you interested, this is Kimbra at her most raw, and at her best.
Now let's talk about a song that was not an immediate favorite of mine, and still isn't. Although I've heard many people say it's one of their favorites, I have never been able to connect with it. The beat is a bit sterile and cold, and so is Kimbra's vocal performance. Not to mention the laziest chorus she has ever put out, rhyming mine with mine about 7 times. To me, it just never goes anywhere, and is a very uninteresting attempt at a hip hop-esque song.

2. Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: I Get Lonely || Can't Be Stopped

I Get Lonely is a huge fan favorite and is often described as a highlight of Janet's career. The vulnerable verses featuring a devastated Janet who was "crying like a newborn child" contrasts with the catchy yet seductive chorus where Janet coos to her lover. The relatability of this extremely catchy song also factors into its likability as everyone has at least experienced heartbreak while not everybody has suffered from depression or engaged in the act of bondage. The harmonies, the thumping bass that's complimented by Janet's soft vocals, and the relatable nature of the song garnered acclaim from fans and critics alike and makes it the best and one of the most accessible songs on the album.
Can't Be Stopped, on the other hand, is definitely one of, if not the single worst song on the album. The song is a hidden track on the album, and while some hidden tracks actually become hidden gems and worth the listen, this specific song would be better off tucked and hidden away, only to have its existence completely forgotten. If it was a separate track on the album, it would be the song that screams "filler!" in the most obvious and worst way. The lyrics are cheesy and lazy, the chorus is such a nonevent, and the song is just a boring non-factor. It doesn't have any redeeming factors whatsoever.

3. MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Turn Me Up || Beautiful (feat. Justin Bieber)

It was clear after the success of Call Me Maybe that Carly's record was going to be dance-pop oriented. However, there are a couple of tracks that are similar to her musical roots in folk pop. Unfortunately, since one of the songs is a bonus track, the standard edition is stuck with "Beautiful" which features Justin Bieber. His addition to the song was unnecessary and turned what could have been a standout track on the album into a desperate filler. While Carly holds her own on the first verse, Justin sticks out like a sore thumb on the second one. Therefore, this song was better off being a solo track or having a different duet partner like John Mayer or Jon McLaughlin. That being said, Carly prevailed with her catchy dance-pop dominating sound of the album, which "Turn Me Up" emulates the best. The song has the verses of a ballad but the chorus of an uptempo, but keeps the beat going at all times and the chorus is too catchy to resist. Out of the new material that wasn't on the Curiosity EP, this is the song that will latch onto you the most. Overall, "Turn Me Up" sells the sound of Kiss very well, but if you want to hear Carly in her musical roots, check out her debut album or listen to the bonus track "Almost Said It" because Beautiful did her roots very wrong

4. Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: March To The Sea || Psalms Alive

Beauty and ugliness, genius and trashiness, good and bad, are all contrasts but each opposite pair is bonded by a common element and relies on the opposing trait to stand out. For example, it would be impossible to appreciate beauty without the ugly to compare. For this round, I sent “March To The Sea” and “Psalms Alive.” “March To The Sea” has always been my favorite while “Pslams Alive” has always been my favorite to skip.
“March To The Sea” has everything that I love about my album. The instrumental is intense and vivid, I love how those cymbals really do sound like crashing waves; the song has all the urgency of a Shermanesque march to the sea; and to me, the song is catchy but still has affecting lyrics about being swept up in being lost. It’s a headrush of a song.
“Psalms Alive” has many of the same elements as “March To The Sea:”the guitars, drums, vocals, and a similar theme of movement are there but is the only song on the album I truly dislike. Filled with farting drums and off-key singing, its hot messery at its finest. For me, none of the many different instruments and ideas come together and the song comes across as disjointed and abrasive in a way that no other songs on the album are: it’s borderline unlistenable. But, this one failed track makes me appreciate how the “March To The Sea” and the other songs came together beautifully.

5. Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: You Learn || Wake Up

Asking me to pick "the best" song on Jagged Little Pill is a difficult task. The album itself is cohesive, high quality, and very meaningful to me in the sense that almost every song is attached to a memory or emotion from one point in my life. However, I have finally settled on the classic Alanis track "You Learn". This song shows off Alanis' signature style, raw vocal chops and insightful/nuanced lyrics. Despite being released almost 20 years ago, this track still connects with me today. In my mind, that's the hallmark of a good song. I've returned to this track at many "rough" patches in my life, and each time this track truly speaks to me on a human level. For these reasons, I consider it the best track on what is a very strong album. As for the "worst track", I'll be honest - this decision wasn't as tough. I'm going with the closing track, "Wake Up". My problem with this song isn't so much that it's "bad", just that it adds nothing new to the conversation. By track 14 (which this song is), you're just left feeling a bit "ok, heard this before" and for me anyway, tempted to flip back to the earlier tracks that are a bit more exciting. With a pretty stagnant and unchanging instrumental, coupled with what I admit are her weakest lyrics ("You like snow, but only if it's warm"...what?) the album's closing track feels a little lacklustre and played out, and in my honest opinion adds nothing new and meaningful to the album.

Towers: You never brought me flowers, never held me in my darkest hours.
These are by far the most contradictory songs off of Salute and actually lie side by side on the tracklisting of the album. We hear the girls yearn for love and affection in the soulful RnB song “Towers”, however in the next track “Competition”, we see them calling out a guy because he’s trying way too hard in the relationship.
The genius of this arrangement on the record proves a point: Sometimes, we don’t really know what we want. We say one thing and don't really mean it, simply because we're putting up a front most of the time. The Mix is well aware of this and that’s why they picked these two songs and put it together, juxtaposed, in the fashion in which they did.
Sonically, the songs differ a lot in how they sound. Competition is incredibly upbeat, powerful, and fun while Towers is more mellow, subtle, and RnB.
Little Mix tried as much as possible to bring every kind of music into Salute and these two songs are proof of how much they achieved that. In doing this, they made an album that is simply IRRESISTABLE (that one's for we Fall Out Boy fans)

I would be the only entry to have the good song put second and the bad track put first. But y'all better figure out what is what based on the essay.
EDIT: Oops. Ok forget what I said.
