Since people with HIV are VERY aware of their health stats (blood test at least every 3 months, medication) and probably with PrEP for my partner I totally would to be honest.
My ex and I had unprotected sex. The tragic part is that he lost his fear of HIV and he got the virus a few months after I broke up with him because he thought every positive guy out there is aware of their health status.
In the future I would actually feel the safest with a partner who's positive too tho. Just a feeling but the heart wants what It wants and you can't control who'll be the ONE.

So I was looking at that hiv roulette thread and started wondering how hard is hiv to actually catch? Why are people "chasing" HIV when, in my head, it only takes sleeping with someone poz once??
If you're the bottom and a poz top (not taking meds) cums/pre cums, aren't you done? Raw sex of course. Doesn't it only take ONE exposure to "positive" bodily fluids to become infected?

Reading this is very uncomfortable. Makes me so confused about this life. We are here discussing on how to avoid or cope with it while there are people wanting to have it. What is going on with their lives and their minds? Why???

What do HIV tests at a sexual health clinic usually entail, I was reading on the NHS and it said you either have the full blood test or the simple test where they take a prick of blood or saliva swob and get results in minutes, but it can be inaccurate. Which one is usually offered?

I'm not sure you guys would know this, but if you already have a blood disease/cancer like leukemia, what would happen if you also got HIV? I also go in for blood draws + treatment every week so just wondering d.

I'm not going to lie, a few years back I had a one night stand and for some reason I was SO afraid that I had contracted HIV. The guy was kind of a "player" that got around, if you get what I mean and things happened thanks to a night full of drinking.
I waited three months and I ordered an HIV kit online. It was like $30 I believe. I had so much anxiety waiting for those results, I literally thought myself into having HIV symptoms... Flu, etc. The results came back negative, but for some reason I didn't believe them.
A year later, I ended up having a full panel blood test done and was cleared for everything. I was scared for nothing. Don't let anxiety freak you out more than you need to be.

Since I'm not that familiar with the actual HIV tests I would pass this question to abrahamjmr since he is more of a pro with the medical stuff but from what I know is that these quick tests are getting better even though I would always go with the tests they do at the actual laboratory. Takes longer but It covers everything 100%. The other one is mostly used in emergency situations, I think. Like when you think you just came out of a risky encounter and you want to get PrEP. Not entirely sure about that tho.

Very interesting topic, thanks for sharing all the informations and experiences.
I have some questions - curiosities about it.
Is the medication expensive? Do you receive a help from the health care of the state where you live or you have to pay by yourself?
Does your family knows about it? How do they react?

Okay so I'm back.
So when I get cut while playing sports or something, I always have one friend with me who knows my status who helps how do I put it, detour people from helping me. Then I act normal ask for a band aid go and clean it put the band aid on and bam.
Now if I got in a car accident etc, I know by law in the United States you are required to tell EMS beforehand so they can help provide anyone who came in contact with your blood services PEP. Which is used for post exposure to HIV virus.
I would never bareback with someone who was HIV+ as well as that can essentially make a super virus if you both are on the same meds and if one meds failed or they didn't take them like they should, your own treatment would fail.
As for chasing the virus, I know some guys really aren't chasing the virus but it makes life easier for them being with a POZ guy as they know their status and they know they should protect themeselves and it leads to less questions as to when did you last get tested etc.
If my partner wanted to do bare knowing I'm poz, that would be a tough decision to make tbh. Ethically, it would be wrong to expose someone I love to what I have but at the same time, they love me enough to risk it so I don't know the answer.

I barebacked a guy who is on PREP, I was the top. We still talk and I ask him.if he's clean and says yes 100% sure, I'm still scared he could be lying so I'm going to get tested. It's been 2 weeks is that to early.to test.
Yes I KNOW it was a VERY dumb decision I will never do it again. It's to late now.

So due to the fact I'm in the US military, I get free health care and due to the fact I got this on duty serving my country, my medicine and treatment will be taken care of for the rest of my life.
As for my family, they don't know yet more so to prevent them from worrying me. When I was first diagnosed, I felt really down as if I was a failure but it really wasn't my fault how I got it. I was a victim, I didn't do anything wrong. However, if something happened regarding my health that lead to injury I would brought it up to them easily.

If you are undetectable, do you still take Truvada pills? (Sorry if this is being answered before)
I ask this because I recently hooked up with a guy, who said he's negative, on Prep (as am I) and it was honestly the best sex I had. No condom or anything. It was just really good. The next morning after I left, I showed a picture of him to my friend and he said "oh this guy, hes HIV+ and undetectable right?" And I'm like no, he's not... And then he confirmed through another friend that his Grindr profile did used to say '+ and undetectable' but recently changed it to just on Prep. So I brought it up to him and he got mad and said he's negative and sent me a picture of his Prep bottle but my friend says undetectables take like 6 pills a day, including Prep.
I mean, I should be fine though, I think.

So there are two tests, rapid test and the full spectrum. Usually when people want quick results, they do a rapid test which is where they swab your mouth or prick you and you get your results in 30 minutes. The problem with those is it has a 94% accuracy meaning you could have it but it says you don't have it.
Then you have your blood test. So they test your blood three times to determine if its truly the virus or nor and if it turns positive three times you for sure have it.
There is also a thing called HIV undetermined where it shows signs where you might but it doesn't show up in the three test runs. They usually ask if you want to be tested again when that occurs.

Is it common to get false negative results? Like, you have the virus but the results come negative.

I don't truvada mainly because if my meds fail or if the virus becomes resistant to truvada. my partners won't be safe. But yes if you are undetectable you need to take your meds to stay undetectable. But Truvada is also HIV treatment medicine so him showing you the bottle doesn't really prove anything. I suggest this one be asked to Daddy as he takes Truvada.
There are .05% of people with HIV who are naturally undetectable without meds but those are really rare to find. What that guy did though was wrong if he is undetectable while POZ.

window period is period of time (usually 25 days to 3 months) that theres not enough HIV antibodies in your blood to be detected in tests

False.
During early infection, a person is EXTREMELY infectious.
Undetectable is the stage a POZ person gets to after about 6 months if they diligently took their drugs. At this point their viral load is so low they are almost as noninfectious as a negative person.
