Yeah I understand, and I also agree that we, the people have the power, we are the numbers and we are the $$$ that fund these projects...but it's just not a risk I'd be willing to bet my career on.

Idk maybe I don't get it cause I'm white...I mean I'd be more than happy to boycott this film for the reasons you and other Asians are upset about, but the rest of society certainly isn't and I honestly don't think they care - which is why I don't think we should place all the blame on Hollywood, sure they help shape what is seen as ideal and what isn't when it comes to looks, race, gender, sexuality etc...but the people are stupid enough to buy into it.

I'm not asian . But that's not the point. I don't think anyone in this thread disagrees that scarlet is more of "a draw" than an asian actress would be. What we're saying is that entire notion is ****ed and not okay. Asians should have the opportunity to represent their own culture in the media. And hollywood should know better than to slap a white woman as the face of another culture in the face of all the heat they've been facing lately with whitewashing. This is shameless

Last year white Hollywood superstar Emma Stone played a half-Asian in Aloha, Rooney Mara played a Native American princess in Peter Pan. These two movies must have made tons of money because they have white star power! Oh wait...

This movie is made by Americans so your argument doesn't make any sense. If the Japanese were producing this movie we'd see an Asian cast.

Obviously this an odd choice to place ScarJo in the role of an apparent Asian-looking character but you cannot blame her exclusively for auditioning and eventually getting this role. She makes money off acting in movies so do you really expect her to turn down a role because people find her looks unfitting? Trust me she does not care what the original character look like and I doubt she feels so emotionally connected to an Anime that's gonna make her turn down a role that'll make her money.

Yeah they were two of the biggest box office flop last year. But Hollywood will NEVER learn. The Last Airbender, another anime adaption that features white leading cast, bombed 6 years ago; Christian Bale & Ridley Scott's Exodus two years ago was an epic failure, yet Hollywood still keeps casting white actors for minority roles
