Around 200k is a GOOD debut for Katy. Just what I expected. I don't know why everybody thought she was gonna do big #'s just because she had a Hot 100 smash.
Yep, cause her album is freaking amazing and the critics agree.
Mmhmm. Now that the numbers are revealed... I think the people that bought the album were the same people that were going to buy it anyway. So I take half of my statement back.
Damn, Congrats Fantasia!
So, You betta be alive to see this happen!
And Katy , I really thought she Would do Better :-/
Meh, I Already expected usher to Open with Low Numbers, He did nothing to Say that his album was Out today
Who wants to repeat all they said about Fanny? I picked up on some heavy shade back on paged 1-4. Something you all fail to realize is her raw talent, be it you're into pop music/rock, I won't have it on my watch.
The Urban AC/Pure R&B market just sells. Alicia, Maxwell, Sade, Monica, & Jahiem have all had impressive first week sales. Fantasia's single wasn't even that big but this recent suicide incident helped her out a lot, without it she would have probably been in the 120-130k range.
It's artist like Katy Perry who have to worry because her fanbase is all about iTunes.
Coming on the heels of two straight smash singles, including "California Gurls" and the title track, Perry’s sophomore Capitol Records album, Teenage Dream, finds her in the clouds, set to debut at #1 with a total of around 200k. And while the first-week sales are slightly below expectations, if the steady stream of hit singles keep coming, it could eventually approach a similar performer, Black Eyed Peas’ E.N.D., which is up to 2.7m and still selling 12-15k a week more than a year after its release.
And while Perry’s chart-topping debut would suggest sex trumps a suicide attempt, Fantasia’s J/RMG album Back to Me seemed to generate sales from media interest in her overdose, with first-week estimates of 120-130k, making her a solid #2.
I'm hoping both Fantasia and Katy would exceed the current expectations. They deserve to have strong-selling albums.
