Clarkson has had the factor that matters and that is longevity. The other was cute for 3-4 years but no one, besides her fans, uses her now.

The thread is very clearly talking about overall careers, so why are you arguing who is currently doing better?

That's not what the thread is asking. Overall means their entire careers.

Avril had a bigger peak, but Kelly's peak (Breakaway) is very impressive as well.
Avril went downhill after her debut, Kelly proved everyone wrong and peaked with her sophomore effort.
Avril is not relevant anymore, while Kelly still is.
Avril doesn't have critical acclaim, Kelly does, with 3 Grammys and even more nominations.

To sum up this post, Avril stays winning overall back in pre and during post-digital age without really trying. Kelly can get all the exposure and hits she can get but she's not surpassing the Canadian Queen of Music's career.

We're talking about career overall and not who you still see on Tv nowadays. But not to discredit Kelly because she's still pretty successful today and has shown longevity.

Breakaway outsold Under My Skin.
The Best Damn Thing outsold All I Ever Wanted.
Stronger and Goodbye Lullaby sold about the same.
Wrapped In Red and Kelly's greatest hits have probably outsold Avril Lavigne but we are combining two albums that were released about the same time.
Avril is probably releasing soon and let's see if she outdoes Piece by Piece.
