Thanks for the thread, slobro. It was fun to read.
How many albums did you get the numbers for? I mean you worked out that Artpop was in the 664th position so obviously at least that many.
Also you got the numbers from BB 10 Best Selling Albums of the Year Lists. Are you saying that BB only supplied exact sales numbers in 2001, 2011 and 2012 and the rest were rounded to the nearest 100k? Having exact numbers for every year would have made the difference in the ranking as some albums are really close together.
Also I see in a few cases some albums ended up being ranked significantly higher in this list due to just a few thousand copies. Examples are Doo Wops & Hooligans and Dangerous literally scraping into the Top 100 of a year by that small margin and thus getting an extra year's figures added to their total.

Do you have Thriller and possibly Bad? I know they still sold a ton after the soundscan era. Thriller is probably the best catalog selling album of all time.

Thriller sold well over 6M in the SoundScan era, but it never made the year-end chart in the SoundScan before the "Thriller 25" re-release, so most of its sales are cut off
That's the con of using year-end lists, they are not big enough to 'capture' catalog sales. Greatest Hits compilations and rock albums especially have most of their sales cut off
If only SoundScan would publish top 1000 best-selling albums per year, lol.

1291 albums
I just used whatever SoundScan year-end lists were available. In the 90s, SoundScan always rounded to the nearest 100k
Ps. For 1991 and 1992, literally only the top 10 and top 20 and some other figures were available  For 1993-1999 they also only published the list of million-selling albums per year, rather than a full top 100 year-end list.
Many of the 00s and 10s year-end lists are from oldbloke @ UKMIX, he rounds to the nearest 1000.
