I really don't get where the black rights movement is going...
It sounds like they're trying to separate themselves from society rather than assimilate and promote equality for everyone. Claiming that "your culture" is something that cannot be shared with anyone else and acting like a spoiled child when you think someone "steals" it is not helping any racial movements.

I think this would have a stronger point if things like "YAAASSS" were used and were obviously something "black".
I feel cultural appropriation has to have some bit of clarity as to where it's from in order for you to judge it as appropriation.
So for example, going on stage in a complete outfit of another culture just because you look cute is appropriation. But speaking in a way that has been widely accepted by an entire community as almost a standard isn't quite there.
It also doesn't help that one of the biggest gay icons, RuPaul, is black and so things like "you betta work" get trickled down into the whole culture.

I am a black, gay man. But, who the hell cares about who came up with "yasss" first??? If this is actually considered an issue, then I need to take a break from social issues because this is pathetic.
One thing I have against black culture is how a lot of people within the black community are self-segregating. They want to own a word ("yassss" in this case) and then make it exclusively their own culture? That's both sad and separating yourself from the rest of society. Who gives a flying **** over a stupid, meaningless word like "yassss"?
