♫ Sugar Rush's Best Flashback Tracks of 2014 ♫
Guideline
I will be starting the Flashback Tracks of 2014 later tonight and hopefully be done by early morning. The Guidelines are, any song that is older than 10 years qualifies. This may be the most difficult chart to do because I always listen to older music rather than new. That being said, I hope to provide you guys a wide variety of my favourite flashback songs that I've been listening to this past year ranging from country, rock to rap and pop.

15 Best Country Songs: Happy to see "The Trailer Song" in the top 5! No Dolly Parton though?
15 Best Album Tracks: If I remember correctly, "You Think You Know Somebody" was one of the only decent songs on Hunter's album, so happy to see it here. "Banks of the Ohio," "Smokin' and Drinkin'," "I See Fire" are all great. Nice to see "This Love" and "Style" representing Taylor, and "Clean" is a superb choice for #1.
I'd never have taken you for an Azaelia Banks fan
And I'd have thought Beyonce's "Blow" was too explicit for your liking.

♫ Sugar Rush's Best Flashback Tracks of 2014 ♫
#15 - #11

#15. Thrice - Stare at the Sun
If anyone played SSX 3 as a kid, they'll know that the soundtrack was amazing and that almost all of the songs on it could have been included on this flashback list. This is one of the many gems I found through the game and very happy I did. Back in my younger years I was heavily influenced by Thrice, Shinedown and Avenged Sevenfold. They were my trinity, and oh how I can say times have changed quite a bit.
#14. Shania Twain - Forever and For Always
Shania's last masterpiece that we were graced with since she's been on her retirement, I mean "hiatus". The song follows the story of everlasting love, and just so positive and upbeat. I'm pretty sure I'll make my children and grand children play this song at their weddings. There is no option, it will happen.
#13. ABBA - Lay All Your Love On Me
Whether you want to admit it or not, ABBA has impacted all our lives in one way or another. It just happens to be that this was the song from ABBA that I remembered playing in my household since I was a child. I remember I'd skip around the house in my mom's high heels and old wedding dress singing the life out of this song. Yes, my mom didn't know I was gay at this point and was still shocked when I came out a few years ago. Either way, this song slays.
#12. Bon Jovi - It's My Life
My nana loved Bon Jovi, and she particularly loved this song during her final months. This past summer while she was still in a healthier state than worst we had a conversation about this song. She said she was sick of everyone worried about her and while she was still functional and alive she wanted to live it - "I Just Want to Live While I'm Alive" and man did she ever. She traveled the world, learned six languages and raised seven grandchildren. This song has a happy, relieved sort of feeling to it because everytime I listen to it I think of my nana and how she'd want me to live my life happy and not in sorrow of her recent passing.
#11. AutoPilot Off - Clockworks
Another gem I found from the SSX 3 soundtrack. The minute I first heard this song eleven years ago I immediately fell in love with it. I would soon purchase their album and fall in love with it entirely. Again, like Thrice, they were one of the groups who introduced me to the world of alternative rock. They were all so immensely talented it's a shame they disbanded the minute I found them. Either way, they are a band I highly recommend everyone to listen too.

♫ Sugar Rush's Best Flashback Tracks of 2014 ♫
#10 - #6

#10. Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart
This hauntingly brilliant ballad is a timeless classic that will be played for another three decades to come. Everything about this song just takes me to another world. The chorus is everything, and the catchy "Turn Around.." lines always stuck to me. It's been one of my favourite songs since I was a young young boy, and it'll stay like that forever.
#9. Britney Spears - (You Drive Me) Crazy
I've always preferred this song over Baby One More Time. It's the epitome of 90s pop and represents what an entire generation struggled to do, release a catchy pop song with lyrics that weren't over the top or too tough to dissect. Overall it's one of the highlight's in Britney's discography and takes us back to the years when we were still so young but managed to somehow know who Britney Spears was.
#8 Dolly Parton - Jolene
If you don't know this song than you clearly live under the rock and need to listen to this ASAP. Dolly Parton was the original legendary female singer/song writer and opened the door for many female artists around the world. Her legacy is endless, and this is one of the jewels of her discography. Singing about a women she fears if trying to steal her wife she pleads begging her that he's the only man she could ever love. Did Jolene accept this bargain? Who knows, but this song makes us wonder.
#7 Madonna - Like a Prayer
I just feel so spiritual and gospely when I listen to this song. I wish Madonna would release more songs like this, but that'd be like asking a cat to bark. Another pop classic that was a pivotal moment in pop culture and aided in her emergence of being a pop legend,
#6. Bryan Adams - Summer of 69'
Sure this song is actually about the lovely act of retweeting, before it came popular, but it is an epic rock staple that is possibly one of the greatest songs of all time. Bryan makes Canada proud, and remains a worldwide icon. This song is just one of the many amazing terms he's wrote.

Crazy is, by far, one of Britney's best singles. Timeless.

I think Shaina's songs are perfect for weddings. They don't sound too cheesy and they're upbeat and fun.

♫ Sugar Rush's Best Flashback Tracks of 2014 ♫
#5 - #1

#5. Shakira - Whenever, Wherever
Again, this is a song that just has timeless replay value. It was such a smash during it's release and still continues to slay radio on catalog tracks. This was where we got the very first taste of international star Shakira, and thank God we did. It's such a good song with an infectious chorus that one can't help but jump up and dance when listening to this song.
#4. Faith Hill - Cry
Last year's number one flashback song still managed to have a big impact this year. The song describes a relationship where the person who broke Faith's heart isn't crying at all or showing any sign of pain for breaking up. This is a song that everyone can relate to I feel because I feel we've all either been the person who want's the other to care, or the person devastated that the other person isn't as hurt as you are. Either way, it's a great song!
#3. Brad Paisley - Whiskey Lullaby (Feat. Allison Kraus)
Unless you wanna cry, do not watch the music video. Brad Paisley has a certain aspect to his voice that makes narrating songs such a joyful experience that you can't help but he's been the person in this situation. Add along Mrs. Allison Kraus and the track is complete. The combination of vocals is beautiful, almost heavenly. This duet takes us back to the cruel tale of love gone wrong, and how some people will do anything to make it up.
#2. Tim McGraw - Please Remember Me
Fun fact, when I went to go see Tim McGraw this summer when this song was performed it was the first time I ever cried at a concert. This song has such significance to me, whether it me about a past relationship or someone close to you who's passed away. You just want them to remember you no matter how hard far they've gone - and that's what touches me.
#1. Stacie Orrico - (There's Gotta Be) More to Life
I started listening to this song at a very pivotal moment in my life. I was going through a phase where I was accepting any kind of temporary hook-up to feel like somebody wanted me, to feel like somebody actually appreciated me. Suddenly I realized, there has to be more to this life I was living just chasing out any temporary rush and feeling I can get. Thankfully, this song pulled me out of this phase and I was able to clean up. It's a beautiful song, and a song I feel everyone should listen to.
