I agree about your thoughts on Tough Love.. (except SYLM which is sorta amazing). I'm thinking MIAM is becoming one of my favorite Mariah releases. I feel like it's a really good mix of everything, while some of her other albums can be a bit ballad heavy sometimes. And RTJ is way too low!

I wasn't expecting Mariah but it's actually one of her best imo in a long time.

I totally just dismissed Piñata back on release, it's gotten to grow on me a lot this week. That production so good even FG is not all that likable to me.

FlyLo is amazing, I just got into him this year and love the album. Glad to see The Chanteuse here, but iffy about it being 40 spots too low. I stan RTJ2 as well so glad to see its inclusion, and I'm really intrigued to get into some of these other albums based on your writeups.

I liked 2 or 3 from Taiga but most of it was just a little too safe. It wasn't bad by any means though. I'll have to check out the push-ups one. That sounds interesting.

40. Cold Cave - Full Cold Moon

This isn't all new songs, but more a compilation of random tracks that didn't make the cut or something like that. Anyway, I like it and I'm putting it here. If you like Synth-Pop and overall darker edged Pop music you'll probably like this. Cold Cave is a very solid and consistent Darkwave artist.

39. Fatima Al Qadiri - Asiatisch

Soooo like conceptually this album is a parody of poorly executed "Chinese" music. Basically it's making fun of a very Western, watered down form of Eastern influenced music. The source material is China but the message could really apply to any region. But then Fatima Al Qadiri has never been to China herself, so the music is basically the same thing as the source material she is making fun of, except with some sorta meta-ironic ******** shield around it. It's amazing. You should listen to it.

38. Actress - Ghettoville

The songs on this songs don't move anywhere, but that's sort of why I enjoy them. It's a bunch of static environments that represent different parts of urban culture and living. I listened to this album on a bunch of drugs though so I probably got a lot more out of it than most people.

37. Charli XCX - Sucker

Charli XCX's sophomore record goes down a much more New Wave and Bubblegum direction. I know she wanted to make a Punk record so this is probably the halfway point she found herself being able to actually release. Luckily, she strides these differences well and releases a good album with memorable moments!

36. Wife - What's Between

Mm, some more of the ethereal synth heavy Pop music. I have a lot of that on here, but it was a huge trend this year. Wife is good at building up tension and releasing at the climax of the song. His vocals are strong, and for someone who used to sing in a Metal band they're surprisingly delicate.

35. Tycho - Awake

Full of lush, beachy, ambient tunes. This isn't as good as Tycho's classic release Dive, but it gives fans of Dive a new collection of tunes to listen to. Great driving music for road trips.

34. Kimbra - The Golden Echo

Kimbra's sophomore album is more than just more of the same. It's a lot of that too, though! She expands her horizons, however, on tracks like 90s Music which is just weird-pop at its finest and then some 80s Funk influence in songs like Madhouse. She tries her hand at more ballads which works well enough I suppose.

33. Ava Luna - Electric Balloon

Ava Luna is a band with a LOT of members, and it's easy to tell. Their songs all sound like they were made from different people, yet there's a magic to this lack of cohesion. The overall sound tying them together is sort of a Dirty Projectors/Talking Heads hybrid that I love, but the songwriting is all very poignant and jaggedly catchy.

32. Katy B - Little Red

This is the last of the "pop diva who had an amazing debut's sophomore album that doesn't live up but still deserves praise" albums on my list, I think. The melodies are much more Pop and demanding, but she works that for the better on most of them, and the bonus tracks are the true gems. Plus, I mean it has Aaliyah on it.

31. Swans - To Be Kind

Swans is VERY hit/miss with me but this album was a hit on all accounts. It's very long though, but if you wanna listen to a long Rock album that actually bothers to entertain the listener instead of relying on BORING cliches then listen to this album.

Kimbra's album was a grower.
