9 pages of essays over a 3-word slogan Maybe instead of writing essays about people who are trying to support your cause you should be writing essays about people who are actually racist. She's not "making it about white people", she's making it about ALL people and equality is about EVERYBODY, not just black people. If she just said "Black Lives Matter" than people would drag her for suggesting that Hispanics and Asians don't matter.

I NEVER said Katy Perry didn't want to support the cause--in fact, quite the opposite--she wants to support the cause because it benefits her but is so ignorant about it that she made it into "All Lives Matter" when the ACTUAL CAUSE itself is "#BlackLivesMatter" and it is that for a reason.
I will not argue with you about her history of exploiting homosexuality (google controversies about Ur So Gay's lyrics and her following that up with I Kissed A Girl), or her being so ignorant about Japanese culture that she literally combined every Asian stereotype and culture into one performance and wore an outfit that was not actually Japanese.
Intentions mean little. Murderers can have "good intentions," police officers can have "good intentions" but at the end of the day there are still two unarmed, innocent black men killed and you care nothing more than to protect your fave from deserved backlash.
It doesn't surprise me that fans of a woman who has built her career on homophobia and cultural appropriation can't understand those terms.
|
I was wondering when the personal attacks would start. You know you don't have a very good case when you resort to commenting on someone's reading comprehension skills and who they stan for.
Katy's backlash was anything but deserved. She tweeted her support (once again ignoring your assumption that she did it just to bandwagon) and your comparison of Katy Perry to the officers that shot the innocent men is far too extreme.
But at the end of the day, you're still going to hate on Katy Perry because she's Katy Perry. There's nothing more to it than that. As someone else said, even if she did write #BlackLivesMatter, people would more than likely still bash her for "bandwagoning" this issue.

If she had supported the cause of #BlackLivesMatter this whole thread wouldn't exist right now, but she didn't. She is ATTEMPTING to support the cause by jumping on the bandwagon and tweeting some faux-empathy to make herself feel better about herself, but because she spent two seconds thinking about the cause and zero effort learning about it, she ignorantly diluted the cause to #AllLivesMatter when that is not the issue at all.
This is NOT just about Katy Perry either--all of the people who tried to make this about #AllLivesMatter deserve the same response, but Katy's history of exploiting homophobia, cultural appropriation, and general bandwagoning of social causes she knows nothing about for commercial success makes this tweet not an anomaly of an event but a trademark of her career.

The whole point of #BlackLivesMatter being negated by white people. I know they don't intend to do it, but come on, think a little.

Oh I get it. Katy Perry tweets support about an important societal issue and everyone bashes her because she's a white, rich and ignorant pop star who just wants to bandwagon a trend to seem like she cares. Right?
Couldn't have anything to do with her actually sympathising with the lives lost and supporting the cause. No, that's crazy.

Are people really hating on her for taking a stand on the issue? Iggy gets demolished for not saying anything, Katy gets backlash for saying the wrong thing. jfc, people will never be happy. #alllivesmatter is inclusive, and there's nothing wrong with the statement.

Except she isn't supporting the cause or sympathizing w/ anybody. She's taking the focus off of it, lol.
And yes sadly this is another case of a racially insensitive white person (Katy Perry) getting caught in some mess.

This performance was with an African themed costume and set, over a hip hop track. Does it get any more transparent than that?

Drag her!
I wonder how really educated she is on this issue.

Why is she making it about people who are irrelevant to the cause? That completely steers away from the goal here. It's not about being "inclusive". It's about focusing on one group of people and the injustices they face every day.

See, now I am offended because black people are saying ONLY their lives matter.
Every life DOES matter like Katy tweeted #ALLLIVESMATTER

Every life DOES matter like Katy tweeted, and if black people had a hint of decency or education,
none of the events that have recently occurred would have occurred to begin with.
#ALLLIVESMATTER

Wow... you see. This is what we're fighting against daily. Ch.
